Nobody can remember which parts of the layout are regulated and which are just someone else&#8217;s preference. That is the exact moment when statement of attainment artwork mistakes start to appear.<\/p>\n<p>A statement of attainment and a testamur are compliance documents long before they are print files. Most requirements resolve as artwork decisions at the design stage: the logo, the typographic prominence, and the line that must never be printed. This guide walks the document element by element from the print side, so the person building the file can see what is mandatory, what is discretionary, and what changes for each recipient.<\/p>\n<p>It covers the required elements of a testamur and a statement of attainment, the NRT logo reproduction rules, the one thing that must never be printed, and which elements shift per recipient. It also covers the physical specification, because the sources are silent on paper stock and finish.<\/p>\n<p>This article is general information about what has to be printed on certification documentation. It is not compliance advice. Confirm every requirement against your own obligations as a registered training organisation and against the current guidance published by ASQA.<\/p>\n<div class=\"cheat-sheet\" style=\"background:#f8f6f3;border-left:4px solid #c9a96e;padding:20px 24px;margin:28px 0;\">\n<p><strong>The short version<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>A testamur confirms a qualification has been awarded, while a statement of attainment is issued when a student leaves a training program, whether they complete it or not.<\/li>\n<li>Both documents carry the issuing RTO name, code and logo, student details, the date, an authorised person, an authenticity measure and the NRT logo.<\/li>\n<li>A statement of attainment must carry one prominent line: &#8220;A STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT IS ISSUED BY A REGISTERED TRAINING ORGANISATION WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL HAS COMPLETED ONE OR MORE ACCREDITED UNITS&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>The NRT logo must appear on all AQF qualifications, statements of attainment and certificates relating to courses that meet the requirements, and its colour is either PMS 343 green or black, or reversed white in limited cases.<\/li>\n<li>The Unique Student Identifier must not be printed on certification documentation, even though the USI must be verified before the document can be issued.<\/li>\n<li>Only the issuing organisation&#8217;s name may appear on the document, as the legal or trading name published on the National Register.<\/li>\n<li>The student&#8217;s name, the date where policy sets it per student, the document number and the unit list are the Variable Data that changes per recipient.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The difference between a testamur and a statement of attainment<\/h2>\n<p>ASQA regulated RTOs operate against the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator (Outcome Standards for Registered Training Organisations) Instrument 2025 and the National Vocational Education and Training Regulator (Compliance Standards for NVR Registered Training Organisations and Fit and Proper Person Requirements) Instrument 2025, both on the Federal Register of Legislation. ASQA states that when issuing these documents all RTOs must follow the VET Compliance Requirements and the Australian Qualifications Framework. Clause 11 of the Compliance Requirements covers the additional requirements for AQF certification documentation. Clause 12 covers the Unique Student Identifier.<\/p>\n<p>The AQF defines a testamur as &#8220;an official certification document that confirms that a qualification has been awarded to an individual&#8221;. ASQA quotes that definition. A statement of attainment is the companion document ASQA expects when a student leaves a training program, whether the student completes the program or not. It cannot be issued as a progress statement for a student who is continuing in the same program.<\/p>\n<p>When a student finishes their required units or modules, ASQA requires the RTO to give them a certified testamur and a record of results. The record of results can appear on the back of the testamur or in a separate document. That is a print decision before the file is built. If the record sits on the reverse, the job moves from single sided to double sided, and the artwork needs a back page.<\/p>\n<h2>What has to appear on a testamur<\/h2>\n<p>ASQA&#8217;s fact sheet Sample forms of AQF certification documentation, published by ASQA and last updated 11 May 2020, sets out the required elements. In page order, the testamur starts with the issuing RTO name, code and logo. ASQA states that only the name of the issuing organisation may be included on a testamur or statement of attainment, and that either the legal name or the trading name as published on the National Register can be used. The next line is &#8220;has fulfilled the requirements for&#8221; followed by the code and full title of the awarded AQF qualification. Conditional elements appear only where they apply. ASQA&#8217;s sample forms list an industry descriptor, an occupational or functional stream, &#8220;ACHIEVED THROUGH AUSTRALIAN APPRENTICESHIP ARRANGEMENTS&#8221; where relevant, a language-of-delivery statement identifying the units it applies to, and a state or territory training authority logo.<\/p>\n<p>ASQA describes the authenticity measure as being in a form that reduces fraud, such as the issuing organisation&#8217;s seal, corporate identifier, unique watermark or document number. The authorised person is the person or persons in the organisation authorised to issue the documentation, and a signature can be included. The date may be the date of issue, award or conferral as defined in the organisation&#8217;s own policies. The NRT logo sits with the statement &#8220;THE QUALIFICATION IS RECOGNISED WITHIN THE AUSTRALIAN QUALIFICATIONS FRAMEWORK&#8221;. The AQF logo may also be used.<\/p>\n<p>ASQA&#8217;s sample forms state that the order and placement of the required information depends on the RTO&#8217;s own design and style guidelines, and that RTOs may customise certification documentation to meet their needs provided all mandatory information is recorded. ASQA also states the samples have no legal status or legal effect and are guidance only. That is the single most useful sentence for a designer: everything mandatory must be present, but the layout is yours.<\/p>\n<h2>What a statement of attainment needs and the line that must be prominent<\/h2>\n<p>Many statement of attainment requirements repeat the testamur identification block. The document carries the RTO name, code and logo, then the line &#8220;This is a statement that&#8221; followed by the student&#8217;s name, and &#8220;has attained&#8221; followed by the code and full title of the competency or modules. ASQA&#8217;s sample forms require the codes and titles to be listed as identified on the National Register. The date, authorised person, authenticity measure and NRT logo requirements are the same as they are for a testamur. ASQA notes that sufficient information must be provided to authenticate the student.<\/p>\n<p>The mandatory line is &#8220;A STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT IS ISSUED BY A REGISTERED TRAINING ORGANISATION WHEN AN INDIVIDUAL HAS COMPLETED ONE OR MORE ACCREDITED UNITS&#8221;. ASQA marks this statement as mandatory and requires it to be prominent so the statement of attainment is not mistaken for a testamur. How prominent &#8220;prominent&#8221; must be is not defined in the sources. It is a typographic judgement the RTO makes, and ASQA&#8217;s sample forms treat the placement of required items as the RTO&#8217;s design call, provided all mandatory information is recorded.<\/p>\n<p>Conditional lines on a statement of attainment include &#8220;THESE COMPETENCIES FORM PART OF [code and title of qualification or course]&#8221;, included only where the RTO has the relevant qualification or course on scope, and &#8220;THESE COMPETENCIES WERE ATTAINED IN COMPLETION OF [code] COURSE IN [full title]&#8221; where applicable. ASQA&#8217;s sample forms also allow a language-of-delivery statement, a state or territory training authority logo, and a skill set statement where the document covers a skill set.<\/p>\n<h2>The NRT logo as an artwork specification<\/h2>\n<p>The NRT logo is the artwork element that causes the most rework. The NRT logo specifications published on training.gov.au state that the logo must be depicted on all AQF qualifications, statements of attainment and certificates relating to courses that meet the requirements. The same specifications state that the logo must not be used on corporate stationery, business cards, building signage, mouse pads, pens, satchels, packaging around products or learning resources, and must not be depicted on other testamurs or transcripts of results. ASQA also supplies the logo on request by email. The logo is both the triangular shape and the descriptor. The triangle is not to be used without the descriptor. The descriptor typeface is Fritz Quadrata, and under no circumstances is the descriptor to be typeset in any other typeface. The size and position on the final product is at the discretion of the product designer, but the proportions of the triangle and the descriptor relative to each other may not be varied, and under no circumstance is the logo to be reproduced in mirror image or rotated. No minimum size in millimetres is set for the NRT logo. Size and position are at the designer&#8217;s discretion, subject to the proportion rule.<\/p>\n<p>Two colour reproduction uses GREEN PMS 343 and RED PMS 192 only. Deviation is not permitted, colours are not to be swapped around, and the logo is not to be stippled. One colour reproduction is preferably GREEN PMS 343, or black where green is not suitable. Where the background clashes or the logo is not prominent, the black logo may be reversed out to display in white. Those are colour rules that become file rules. A spot colour named in the specifications is a spot colour conversation with the printer, and a logo pulled off a website at screen resolution will not hold at print size.<\/p>\n<p>For a print-ready file, the logo should be placed as vector artwork from the official source, not lifted from a website. When we handle <a href=\"https:\/\/printshop.paperlust.co\/products\/certificate-printing\">certificate printing<\/a>, the file you approve is what goes to press, so the source artwork matters before you upload.<\/p>\n<h2>The Unique Student Identifier must not be printed<\/h2>\n<p>The Unique Student Identifier must not be included on certification documentation. ASQA&#8217;s sample forms and ASQA&#8217;s guidance state plainly that RTOs must not enter a USI on these documents. That rule feels counterintuitive because ASQA also states that, unless the student is exempt, an RTO can only issue a qualification or statement of attainment after the RTO has verified the USI, or has applied for a USI on behalf of the student. The USI is therefore a prerequisite to issuing and simultaneously something that must not appear on the printed document. Both things are true, and that pairing is where the mistake comes from. An administrator adds the USI to a data field because it is the internal document number, and the certificate becomes defective. Keep the USI out of the artwork and out of the Variable Data file.<\/p>\n<h2>Variable Data: which elements change per recipient<\/h2>\n<p>The split between static and variable content is the whole reason Variable Data print exists for this job. Both are available with or without foil. The sources are silent on paper stock, weight or finish for certification documentation. That is an RTO decision, not a compliance one. A document kept for years justifies the heavier board.<\/p>\n<p>Square corners are standard. Rounded corners are $15 per order on 25, 50 or 100 certificates and $25 per order on an order of 250 certificates. A simple custom die cut shape is $49 per order on 25, 50 or 100 certificates and $89 per order on an order of 250 certificates, with complex shapes quoted separately. Both are available on any stock and foil combination. Gold, silver or rose gold foil can be added to the certificate title, crest or border at a published price from $129 for 25 on Matt 300gsm inc GST. The price is the same regardless of which foil colour is chosen. The minimum order is 25 certificates. Published pricing starts from $49 inc GST for 25. Published quantities are 25, 50, 100 and 250, with other quantities, including above 250, available on request with a full quote within one business day.
