Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between PVC signs and acrylic signs?

Both are rigid plastic sign materials. Acrylic (perspex) is harder, stiffer, available in clear, translucent, and coloured sheets, and more brittle. Foamed PVC is lighter, more workable, and less expensive — the preferred choice for most printed flat-sign applications. Acrylic is typically chosen for illuminated or backlit signs.

How does PVC compare to aluminium composite panel (ACP)?

Aluminium composite panel is more durable outdoors (5-10 years) but heavier, more expensive, and harder to work with. For most outdoor sign applications requiring 1-3 year lifespan, 5mm PVC is the more practical and cost-effective choice.

Can PVC signs be used outdoors?

Yes — 5mm foamed PVC with UV-direct printing is suitable for outdoor display. Expected lifespan is 1-3 years depending on UV exposure and climate. UV-laminate overcoating is available to extend outdoor durability in high-UV environments.

What mounting hardware do you recommend for standoff mounting?

Standard 10mm or 20mm barrel standoffs in aluminium or stainless steel are appropriate for most PVC panel sizes. Specify standoff mount positions when ordering and we will pre-drill holes to the correct diameter for your standoff hardware.

Can I get rounded corners on my PVC signs?

Yes — rounded corners are available on any rectangular PVC sign format. Common options are 5mm, 10mm, and 20mm radius. Specify when ordering.

What is the maximum size PVC sign you can produce?

Our standard maximum sheet size is 2440mm x 1220mm. For larger installations requiring panels bigger than this, contact our team for advice on multi-panel systems.

Can you match Pantone colours on PVC signs?

Our UV-direct printing produces accurate colour reproduction from CMYK files. Supply Pantone references in your brief for conversion and our team will calibrate output as closely as our system allows. For strict colour matching, request a proof print before approving the full run.

Is PVC environmentally friendly?

Foamed PVC is a petroleum-derived plastic that is not as easily recycled as polypropylene. The durability of PVC — lasting years rather than weeks — typically means a lower per-year environmental footprint than short-lived alternatives replaced frequently. For recyclability as a priority, corflute is the more straightforward choice.

Do you do a design and artwork service for PVC signs?

Yes — our in-house design team can produce print-ready artwork from your logo, brief, and brand guidelines. Ask at checkout or contact us before ordering to discuss design service options.

What is a PVC sign?

It's a premium, durable plastic that's weather-resistant, won’t warp easily, and resists fading. This makes it ideal for long-lasting indoor use and even for temporary outdoor PVC signs (e.g., event or real-estate signage).

How long does production take?

We offer fast production as our standard. However, production times may vary depending on order volume and complexity. Please refer to the estimated timelines below:

  • Banners: 2-3 working days
  • A-Frames & Sandwich Boards: 3-4 working days
  • Signage & Panels: 3-4 working days
  • Window & Floor Graphics: 3-4 working days
  • Magnets & Large Stickers: 3-4 working days
  • Posters & Promotional Materials: 3-4 working days

These estimates apply after your design proof is approved. While we strive to complete orders within the promised timeline, production times may extend slightly during peak periods.

What format should I provide my artwork to you in?

File Type

We prefer artwork in PDF, SVG and Adobe Illustrator formats. Please add 3mm bleed and crop marks whenever possible.

Fonts & Artworks

Make sure all fonts are outlined/vectorized, and all images/artwork embedded.

Dieline

Dieline needs to be in 100% Magenta Spot Colour and placed on the top layer.

Will I receive a design proof before it's printed?

Yes we will send a final design proof to your email. We will not proceed to print until we receive your design approval.

Custom PVC Signs Printed in Australia

PVC signs are rigid, lightweight panels made from foamed polyvinyl chloride — the same smooth-faced, weatherproof material used for professional signage across hospitality, construction, retail, events, and office environments. At Paperlust Print Shop, we print PVC signs using UV-direct full-colour printing on 3mm and 5mm foamed PVC board, delivering sharp, durable signage with 2-3 working day production and Australia-wide delivery.

What Is Foamed PVC Board?

Foamed PVC (also called Sintra, Forex, or PVC foam board) is an expanded polyvinyl chloride sheet with a smooth, dense surface and a lightweight foamed core. It is rigid but easy to cut, drill, and route to custom shapes. The surface is smooth and non-porous, which produces sharp, photographic print quality under UV-direct printing. Foamed PVC is weatherproof, moisture-resistant, and UV-stable, making it suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. It does not warp or delaminate in humidity and holds screws and fixings without cracking.

PVC Signs vs. Corflute: Which Material Should You Choose?

PVC and corflute are the two most common rigid sign materials in Australia, but they serve different applications. Corflute is lighter, cheaper, and better for short-term or disposable signage (election signs, event wayfinding, real estate arrows). PVC is more rigid, has a premium smooth surface, and is better for longer-term display, permanent or semi-permanent installation, and applications where print quality and surface finish matter. If your signs need to last longer than a few months, look impressive at close inspection, and hold fixing hardware securely, PVC is the right choice.

3mm vs. 5mm PVC: Which Thickness?

3mm PVC is lighter and lower cost per panel — suitable for indoor display and lightweight wall mounting. 5mm PVC is stiffer and substantially more rigid — the right choice for outdoor display, large-format signs that need to hold flat without support, and applications where the sign needs to feel substantial and premium. For most outdoor applications, 5mm is recommended.

Mounting Options for PVC Signs

PVC signs can be mounted using a wider range of methods than corflute or fabric alternatives: pre-drilled holes at corners or custom positions; standoff mounts (metal barrel standoffs for a floating, premium look); direct screwing or nailing to walls, posts, and frames; adhesive mounting on flat smooth surfaces; cable suspension systems; and custom routing to insert into slotted frames or channel systems. Paperlust Print Shop can pre-drill mounting holes to your specified positions as part of the production process.

Indoor vs. Outdoor Use: What to Know

PVC signs are suitable for both indoor and outdoor applications. Indoors, PVC is effectively permanent. Outdoors, UV-direct printing on PVC is rated for 1-3 years of continuous exterior display under Australian conditions, depending on sun exposure and climate. In very high-UV environments, consider UV-laminated signs for maximum longevity. 5mm PVC is recommended for all outdoor applications.

UV-Direct Printing on PVC: Why It Produces Superior Results

UV-direct printing applies ink directly to the PVC surface and instantly cures it using ultraviolet light. The ink will not flake, peel, or crack; print edges are sharp and photographic; colours are vibrant and accurate; and the cured ink is highly resistant to scratching, moisture, and UV fade. UV-direct printing is the professional standard for PVC signage.

Custom Shapes and Sizes

PVC board can be cut to virtually any shape using CNC routing — circles, ovals, rounded corners, irregular silhouettes, and custom die-cut profiles are all achievable. Standard rectangular formats are available from A4 through to 2440mm x 1220mm. Contact our team with your shape requirements for a custom quote.

Turnaround Time and Delivery

Standard production is 2-3 working days after artwork approval. Delivery to Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide metro areas is typically 1-2 business days after dispatch. Perth and regional areas allow 2-4 business days. All orders include tracking.

Trusted by Australian Businesses

From cafe wayfinding panels to construction site safety signs to corporate office directories, Paperlust Print Shop has produced PVC signage for Australian businesses across industries. Our 100% print guarantee means if your signs arrive with a print defect, we reprint them at no cost.
