Planning for 2027 starts now, and the 2027 public holidays are not one clean national list. A Monday off in Queensland can be an ordinary working day in Victoria, and a Sunday public holiday in one state can become a substitute Monday in another.
This guide runs through the 2027 dates in each state and territory from the Fair Work Ombudsman page, read on 22 October 2026. It sets out the public holidays in Australia that all states share, the long weekends 2027 creates, the two weekend clashes and the regional days a state wide list misses. The Fair Work Ombudsman says these dates are a guide and not the full list for each state and territory, so check the state or territory government page for the complete local list.
The short version
- Easter runs Friday 26 March to Monday 29 March, with most of Australia also listing the Saturday and Sunday.
- Anzac Day falls on Sunday 25 April, and only some states add Monday 26 April.
- The King’s Birthday is Monday 14 June in most places, but Monday 4 October in Queensland and Monday 27 September in Western Australia.
- Christmas Day and Boxing Day fall on a weekend, so Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 December are holidays everywhere.
- The Friday before the AFL Grand Final in Victoria is still to be confirmed.
- Regional days such as show days are not on state wide lists, so check your state government page.
2027 public holidays shared by all states and territories
A small set of dates appears across the country in 2027, even when a weekend shift changes the day people actually take off.
| Holiday | 2027 date | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| New Year’s Day | Friday 1 January | Listed in all states and territories. |
| Australia Day | Tuesday 26 January | Falls on a Tuesday, so it does not create a long weekend. |
| Good Friday | Friday 26 March | Listed in all states and territories. |
| Easter Monday | Monday 29 March | Listed in all states and territories. |
| Christmas Day | Saturday 25 December | Monday 27 December is added everywhere. |
| Boxing Day | Sunday 26 December | Tuesday 28 December is a holiday in every state and territory. South Australia marks the Sunday as the Proclamation Day holiday and the Tuesday for Proclamation Day. Tasmania keeps Boxing Day itself on Tuesday 28 December, with no Sunday 26 December holiday. |
Easter Saturday and Easter Sunday are listed in all states and territories except Tasmania, while Western Australia lists Easter Sunday but not Easter Saturday.

Anzac Day and the Christmas weekend clashes in 2027
Anzac Day falls on Sunday 25 April in 2027. NSW and WA keep the Sunday and add Monday 26 April as a holiday. The ACT lists the Sunday as an additional holiday and the Monday as Anzac Day. The NT lists Monday 26 April only, and Queensland does the same. Victoria, SA and Tasmania list the Sunday only, with no Monday holiday.
Christmas Day falls on Saturday 25 December and Boxing Day on Sunday 26 December. Across the country, Monday 27 December and Tuesday 28 December are days off. In SA the Tuesday is for Proclamation Day, and in Tasmania the Tuesday is Boxing Day itself.
Regional and part day holidays the state wide lists miss
The Fair Work Ombudsman list is not the full local picture. Queensland has the Royal Queensland Show on Wednesday 11 August in the Brisbane area only. Tasmania has the Royal Hobart Regatta on Monday 8 February and the Royal Hobart Show on Thursday 21 October in certain areas, including Hobart, plus Recreation Day on Monday 1 November in areas that do not observe the Regatta. Tasmania also lists Easter Tuesday on Tuesday 30 March, generally for the Tasmanian Public Service only.
The AFL Grand Final Friday in Victoria is subject to the AFL schedule and still to be confirmed. The Melbourne Cup falls on Tuesday 2 November in most of Victoria, and some regional areas hold it on another date. WA’s King’s Birthday is Monday 27 September, and some regional areas observe that holiday on a separate local date.
Queensland has a Christmas Eve part day on Friday 24 December from 6 pm to midnight. South Australia and the NT have a Christmas Eve part day from 7 pm to midnight, and a New Year’s Eve part day on Friday 31 December from 7 pm to midnight. Check the government page for your state or territory for the full regional list.
Because those extra days can move a production week without appearing on the main list, our print turnaround and express printing guide explains how public holidays around Easter, Anzac Day and the end of the year change print timing.

Putting a printed 2027 calendar on the fridge
A printed 2027 calendar earns its space when it shows the public holidays that apply where the calendar will be read. The fridge magnet calendars from Paperlust Print Shop print the 2027 state wide public holidays for one state or territory on a DL fridge magnet, as listed by the Fair Work Ombudsman, with the weeks starting on Sunday. The calendar runs January to December. It does not mark regional or local holidays, the Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve evening part days, Easter Tuesday in Tasmania, the AFL Grand Final Friday in Victoria, or school holidays.
Pick the state where the calendars will be handed out, not the state where they are designed. Real estate agents letterbox drop them in January so the household keeps the agent’s details on the fridge all year. Tradespeople, cafes, bakeries, clinics, gyms, sports clubs and schools order them too. A PDF proof is emailed before anything prints.
