The base stock is a 450 GSM artboard with a velvet laminate. The laminate gives the card a soft matte ground that sits quietly behind the varnish, so the spot UV is the first thing the eye catches.

In the hand the cards feel firm and considered. The matte surface keeps text and imagery easy to read, while the gloss layer adds contrast without changing the thickness of the card. Because the varnish is cured rather than applied as a film, it resists scuffs and scratches in high traffic areas.

This single stock is the only paper offered on this page. There is no alternative paper weight or uncoated option. The velvet matte ground is what carries the shine, and the finish reads as a high shine mark on a soft matte base.

Supply your artwork as two things: the CMYK artwork and a separate layer or page that marks where the varnish goes. On that layer, draw each varnish area as a 100 percent solid single colour shape. Do not use a tint, a gradient, a drop shadow or a soft edge. The varnish is either applied or it is not, so the mark needs a hard boundary.

Name the layer clearly so it is not mistaken for printed artwork. Keep varnish shapes at least 3mm clear of the trim, and do not run varnish to bleed. Fine hairlines and type below about 6pt do not hold a clean edge, so keep marks to logos, names, headings, panels and pattern blocks.

The spot UV varnish is most reliable when it is applied to solid shapes with a clear boundary. Logos, names, headings, panels and pattern blocks hold a clean varnish edge well, especially when they sit on a dark or saturated ground.

Fine hairlines and type below about 6pt do not hold a clean varnish edge on this product. Avoid using the varnish for small reversed text or thin rules. A varnish mark over white is visible but subtle, so if you want the finish to read at arm's length, place it on a dark or saturated area.

Because the varnish is cured instantly, it follows the shape you supply. The clearer the artwork layer, the more predictable the result. Simple hard edged shapes give the cleanest result.

The page offers two printing options: front only, and front and back. Front only applies the CMYK artwork and spot UV to the face of the card, leaving the back unprinted. Front and back applies both to the reverse as well.

Front only suits a card that is handed over with the key details on one side, while front and back gives you a second surface for a logo, appointment detail, map or social handle. The finish remains the same spot UV on every printed side.

The 450 GSM velvet laminated stock is the same for both options. Choose front only if the varnish should frame a name on the face, or front and back if both sides carry a mark worth highlighting. The card is intended for indoor use.
