Custom Canvas Prints

A canvas print carries your photo further than any paper alternative. The combination of artist-grade canvas stock and UV-resistant inks means the image holds its colour and resists fading over decades. Where a paper print behind glass can yellow or warp with humidity changes, a properly stretched canvas breathes with the room, stays taut and sits flat against the wall. There is no glass on any of our canvas finishes, so there is no glare to fight when you hang the piece opposite a window, and nothing to shatter if it comes off the wall.

Every canvas print is offered in three finishes. They use the same artist-grade canvas and the same seven sizes, so the only decision is how you want the edge of the piece to read on the wall.

• Gallery Wrap: the frameless original. A 38mm-deep canvas with the printed image continuing around all four sides, so the piece reads edge to edge with no border at all. This is the standard canvas print finish and our most popular choice.
• Floating Frame: the same 38mm canvas set inside a slim timber frame, with a fine shadow-gap reveal running between the canvas edge and the frame so the image appears to float. The most contemporary of the three, and the finish gallery hangs favour.
• Classic Frame: a slim 19mm canvas set into a traditional timber frame whose inner edge overlaps the canvas, with no gap between the two. It sits closer to the wall than the other finishes and is the framed canvas look most people picture when they think of a framed print.

There is no wrong answer. Gallery wrap suits photography and full-bleed artwork where you do not want the eye stopped at a border. A floating frame adds definition without hiding any of the image. A classic frame gives the piece a finished, traditional edge that sits comfortably alongside framed paper prints in a gallery wall.

Every one of our seven sizes is available in all three finishes, and the price shown is for the finished piece, stretched and assembled. All prices are in Australian dollars and include GST.

Framing is priced by size band rather than as one flat fee, so the upcharge stays proportional to the piece. A floating frame adds $40 on the two small sizes, $50 on the two medium sizes and $60 on the three large sizes. A classic frame adds $30, $40 and $50 across those same three bands. A flat $30 shipping fee is added at checkout for Australia-wide large-item delivery, whatever size and finish you choose.

Every Paperlust canvas print is made to order in Australia using the following materials and construction:

• 400gsm artist-grade canvas with a fine-weave texture that adds depth to photographic and graphic prints
• Solid timber stretcher bars, corner-braced for long-term stability: 38mm on the gallery wrap and floating frame, 19mm on the classic frame
• UV-resistant inks for colour accuracy and fade resistance
• Solid timber frames on both framed finishes, in Black, Natural Oak or White
• No glass or glazing on any finish, so there is no glare and nothing to break
• Canvas folded and stapled to the back of the timber bars, with no hanging hardware supplied, so you can choose the hook or wall fitting that suits your wall
• Made and dispatched in Australia from our print studio

Size is the single biggest decision when ordering a canvas print. A print that is too small on a wide wall reads as an afterthought; one that is too large in a narrow hallway can feel overpowering. As a practical guide:

• 30x30cm or 30x40cm: desk ledge, shelf, small bathroom or a bedroom accent piece
• 40x50cm or 50x50cm: above a bedside table, in a home office or as part of a gallery wall arrangement
• 50x70cm or 70x70cm: above a single sofa cushion, in a dining room or as a feature on a bedroom wall
• 60x90cm: the statement piece, suited to a wide sofa wall, entryway or open-plan living space

When in doubt, tape a sheet of paper to the wall at the dimensions you are considering and stand back to see how it reads in the room before placing your order. The size you select is the size of the printed canvas itself. On the two framed finishes the timber moulding sits outside that, so the finished piece covers slightly more wall than the size on the label.

A floating frame creates a shadow-gap reveal between the canvas edge and the outer frame, giving the finished piece a gallery exhibit quality. The 38mm canvas sits inside the frame without touching it, so the printed image stays fully visible and the piece stands proud of the wall as a dimensional object. Our floating frames are available in three colours, each crafted from solid timber: Black, Natural Oak and White. Adding a floating frame costs $40 on our small sizes (30x30cm and 30x40cm), $50 on our medium sizes (40x50cm and 50x50cm) and $60 on our large sizes (50x70cm, 70x70cm and 60x90cm). Select your preferred frame colour when placing your order. The canvas and frame are assembled and finished before dispatch so the piece arrives as one finished unit.

A classic frame is the traditional framed canvas: the inner edge of the frame overlaps the canvas so the two sit flush against each other, with no gap and no glass. Built on a slim 19mm canvas, it is the shallowest of our three finishes and sits close to the wall, which makes it the easiest to hang alongside framed paper prints in a gallery wall. Classic frames are available in the same three solid timber colours as the floating frame: Black, Natural Oak and White. Adding a classic frame costs $30 on our small sizes (30x30cm and 30x40cm), $40 on our medium sizes (40x50cm and 50x50cm) and $50 on our large sizes (50x70cm, 70x70cm and 60x90cm). One thing to know before you choose it: because the frame covers the edge of the canvas, a classic-framed canvas is finished with a plain white edge rather than a wrapped image. Nothing is lost from the front of your picture, but the image does not continue around the sides the way it does on a gallery wrap.

Canvas prints are low maintenance. Dust occasionally with a dry, soft cloth and avoid liquid cleaners, which can lift the ink surface. On the framed finishes, dust the timber with the same dry cloth and avoid furniture polish. Direct sunlight over prolonged periods will affect any ink over time, even UV-resistant formulas, so consider placement in rooms with filtered or indirect natural light. If a corner loses a small amount of tension after years on the wall, a professional framer can re-stretch the canvas without needing to reprint. Our timber stretcher bars are kiln-dried to minimise movement from seasonal humidity changes.
