Frequently Asked Questions
What image resolution do I need for a sharp print?
For A4 and A3 sizes, a file at 300 dpi gives excellent results. For A2, use the highest resolution file you have available. As a practical guide, a photo taken on a modern smartphone is usually sufficient for A4 and A3. If you are printing from a low-resolution source such as an older digital file or a heavily compressed image, the printed result will reflect that quality, so it is worth sending us your best available file.
What sizes are available?
We offer three standard sizes: A4 (21x29.7cm) at $79, A3 (29.7x42cm) at $129, and A2 (42x59.4cm) at $179. All sizes are available in portrait or landscape orientation. A flat $15 framed shipping fee is added at checkout.
Which frame colour should I choose?
Black works well in modern and minimalist spaces and pairs particularly well with monochrome or high-contrast images. White suits lighter, coastal or Scandinavian-style interiors and is a popular choice for family portraits. The Oak Finish option brings warmth to the piece and complements timber furniture and earthy colour palettes. If your space has a neutral or mixed palette, Oak Finish is often the most versatile option.
Why plexiglass instead of glass?
Plexiglass is shatterproof, which makes it significantly safer in transit and in the home, particularly in households with children or pets. It is also lighter than standard glass, which makes large formats like A2 easier to handle and hang. The optical clarity of our plexiglass is comparable to standard glass, so there is no visible difference in how your image looks once the frame is on the wall or on a shelf.
Can the frame hang on a wall and also stand on a shelf?
Yes. Every Paperlust framed print includes a fold-out stand on the back for tabletop or shelf display, and pre-fitted hanging hardware for wall mounting. Both options are available for all three sizes. You do not need to purchase anything separately to use either display method.
How much does shipping cost and how long will my order take?
A flat $15 framed shipping fee applies to all orders, Australia-wide. A4 frames are made in Australia and are typically dispatched within 6-7 days. A3 and A2 frames are made to order at our New Zealand facility, so allow a little longer, approximately 10-13 days to dispatch.
Can I print my own photo or personal artwork?
Yes. You can upload any photo, illustration, digital artwork or file you own the rights to. The process is the same whether you are printing a family photo, a piece of art you have created, a travel photograph or a design you have purchased. Please ensure you have the rights to print any image you upload.
What happens if my frame arrives damaged in transit?
If your frame arrives damaged as a result of transit, we will reprint and reship your order at no cost to you. Please contact us promptly and include a photo of the damage so we can process your replacement quickly.
Do you do framed printing in Australia?
Yes. Framed prints are ordered online and shipped Australia-wide with a flat $15 framed shipping fee, so Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, Darwin and regional addresses all order the same way. Production is split by size: A4 frames are made in Australia and typically dispatched within 6-7 days, while A3 and A2 frames are made to order at our New Zealand facility and take approximately 10-13 days to dispatch.
Can I order personalised framed prints with my own photo?
Yes. Every framed print on this page is personalised, in the sense that it is made from the file you upload. Personalised framed prints and personalized framed prints are the same product here: you send the photo, artwork or design, choose A4, A3 or A2, choose Black, White or Oak Finish, and we print and frame that image. You need to hold the rights to any image you upload.
What are A4, A3 and A2 in inches?
A4 is 8.3 x 11.7 inches (210 x 297mm), A3 is 11.7 x 16.5 inches (297 x 420mm) and A2 is 16.5 x 23.4 inches (420 x 594mm). Those figures are the printed sheet inside the frame, not the outer dimensions of the frame itself, so allow a little extra wall space for the finished piece.
Do you deliver framed prints to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth?
Yes. A flat $15 framed shipping fee applies to every order, Australia-wide, whichever size and frame colour you choose. Delivery time after dispatch varies by location within Australia. If your order is tied to a date, send that date with your enquiry and we will confirm the timeline before you order.
Is it cheaper to order a framed print or to print and frame it myself?
It depends on what you value. Ordering it framed gives you one price, one delivery and a print made for the frame it ships in, with no mount-board matching and no second trip. Framing it yourself gives you a wider choice of mouldings and mount boards, and it is the better route if you want a deep mat or a size outside A4, A3 and A2. For a standard A-series piece that simply needs to go on a wall, ordering it framed is the shorter path.
Can I order framed wall art as a set for a gallery wall?
Yes. Order the pieces you want in the same frame colour and they will read as a collection rather than as separate purchases. Three A4 pieces in a row, or one A2 with two A3s beneath it, are the two arrangements that work in the widest range of rooms. Each piece ships with its own fold-out stand and hanging hardware fitted.
Are framed prints a good gift?
They work well as a gift because they arrive finished. There is no frame for the recipient to buy, nothing to assemble and nothing to measure, since the stand and the hanging hardware are already fitted and the glazing is shatterproof plexiglass rather than glass. Anniversaries, weddings, housewarmings, new babies and team gifts are the most common occasions here. If the gift has a date attached, note that A4 dispatches in around 6-7 days and A3 and A2 in around 10-13 days.
How much do 2 A4 custom framed prints cost?
2 A4 (21 x 29.7 cm) custom framed prints cost $142 in total, which is $71 each. This price is for the default Frame Colour: Black and includes GST. Standard delivery is $10 per order.
Do framed print prices include GST and delivery?
Framed print prices include GST, but delivery is charged separately. Standard delivery is $10 per order and express delivery is $15 per order, Australia-wide. Pickup from Oakleigh South, Victoria is available at no charge.

What goes into every frame
The frame itself is natural pine wood, with your choice of Black, White or Oak Finish. The glazing is plexiglass: shatterproof, lightweight and far safer to ship than standard glass. Behind the glazing, your image is printed on 170gsm matte fine-art paper, which gives a soft, non-reflective surface that suits photography, illustrations and artwork equally well. Portrait and landscape orientations are both available.
Hang it or stand it, your choice
Every Paperlust framed print arrives with two display options built in. A fold-out stand on the back lets you stand the frame on a shelf, desk, dining sideboard or bedside table. Flip it over and the pre-fitted hanging hardware means it is wall-ready straight out of the box. There is no need to buy a separate stand, source extra hardware or make two trips to the hardware store. This dual hang-or-stand capability is included as standard across A4, A3 and A2.
Choosing between Black, White and Oak Finish
The frame colour you choose changes the feel of the finished piece significantly.
- Black frames suit modern and minimalist interiors, monochrome photography and high-contrast artwork. They draw the eye directly to the image.
- White frames complement coastal, Scandinavian and light-filled spaces. They work especially well with family portraits and softer palettes.
- Oak Finish frames bring warmth and texture. They pair naturally with timber furniture, botanical prints, earthy tones and relaxed home styles.
Available sizes
Framed prints are available in three standard paper sizes, portrait or landscape:
- A4 (21x29.7cm): ideal for a desk, bedside table or as part of a gallery wall arrangement. Priced at $79.
- A3 (29.7x42cm): a versatile mid-size that works well above a desk or within a gallery wall cluster. Priced at $129.
- A2 (42x59.4cm): a statement piece suited to a feature wall, hallway or above a bed or sofa. Priced at $179.
A flat $15 framed shipping fee applies to all orders, Australia-wide.
Looking for a larger statement size or a frameless finish? Our canvas prints print on 400gsm artist canvas up to 60x90cm, as a gallery wrap or with a floating or classic timber frame.
How to order and what file to send
The ordering process is straightforward. Upload your file, select your size, frame colour and orientation, then place your order. For best results, upload a high-resolution file: a JPEG, PNG or PDF at 300 dpi is ideal for A4 and A3, and as large a file as you have available for A2. Avoid upscaling low-resolution files, as the printed result will reflect the original image quality. If you are unsure whether your file is suitable, you are welcome to contact us before ordering.
Caring for your frame, and giving one as a gift
Plexiglass glazing is easy to clean: a soft, dry cloth or a slightly damp microfibre cloth removes dust and fingerprints without scratching. Avoid abrasive cleaners or paper towels. Keeping the frame out of direct sunlight will preserve the print over time. As a gift, a framed print makes a considered and personal choice for birthdays, anniversaries, new home celebrations, Mother's Day or wedding gifts. The frame arrives packaged securely for safe transit.
Framed Prints Australia: How Ordering Works
Ordering framed prints online in Australia runs on one process, and it is the same whether you are in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Canberra, Hobart, Darwin or a regional address. There is no framing appointment and no second trip. You upload the file, choose the size, the frame colour and the orientation, and the finished piece is printed, framed and shipped to you.
To order framed prints from us, the steps are:
- Choose the size: A4, A3 or A2, portrait or landscape.
- Choose the frame colour: Black, White or Oak Finish, all natural pine wood.
- Upload the file: a JPEG, PNG or PDF. At A4 and A3 a 300 dpi file is ideal; at A2 send the largest file you have.
- Confirm: prices are in Australian dollars and a flat $15 framed shipping fee covers delivery Australia-wide.
One thing worth knowing before you order, because most sellers do not tell you: A4 frames are made in Australia and are typically dispatched within 6-7 days, while A3 and A2 frames are made to order at our New Zealand facility and take approximately 10-13 days to dispatch. If you are working to a birthday, an anniversary or a move-in date, that difference is the thing to plan around, so send the date with your enquiry and we will confirm the timeline before you order rather than after.
Framed Photo Prints: Printing and Framing in One Order
Photo printing and framing normally means two purchases and two waits: you order the print, then you find a frame that fits it. Here it is one order. You print and frame a photo in a single step, and what arrives is finished, glazed and fitted with both a fold-out stand and hanging hardware.
Framed photo prints suit some images better than others, and the paper is the reason. 170gsm matte fine-art paper has a soft, non-reflective surface, so a framed photo print holds detail in shadows and skin tones without the glare you get from a gloss photo finish under a downlight. Portraits, family groups, travel photography, pet photos and illustrated or typographic artwork all sit well on it. Very high-key commercial product shots that depend on specular highlights are the one case where a gloss surface would flatter the image more.
The file matters more than the camera. A photo from a modern smartphone is usually enough for A4 and A3; at A2 use the highest-resolution version you have rather than an upscaled copy, because upscaling adds pixels without adding detail. If you want to check a file before ordering, our guide to photo resolution and DPI for printing sets out how to work out whether an image will hold at the size you want.
Personalised Framed Prints and Framed Wall Art
Every piece on this page is made from your file, so these are personalised framed prints rather than a catalogue of ready-made designs. Whichever spelling you use, personalized framed prints and personalised framed prints mean the same thing here: you supply the image and we print and frame that image, at the size and in the frame colour you pick.
That covers more than photographs. Custom framed wall art on this page is regularly ordered as:
- a family or wedding photograph, printed and framed as a keepsake
- framed art prints of an illustration, a painting scan or a digital artwork you own the rights to
- typographic pieces: vows, song lyrics, a poem, a birth record or a house rules print
- a custom map or star print marking a place or a date that matters
- branded or curated images for a reception area, a meeting room or a studio
For a gallery wall, a set ordered together in one frame colour reads as a collection rather than an accumulation. Three A4 pieces in a row, or one A2 with two A3s beneath it, are the two arrangements that work in the widest range of rooms.
Framed Print Sizes in cm, mm and Inches
Framed print sizes here are the three standard A-series paper sizes. The dimension quoted is the printed sheet inside the frame, not the outer frame, so the finished piece occupies a little more wall than the number suggests.
- A4 framed print: 210 x 297mm, 21 x 29.7cm, 8.3 x 11.7 inches. $79.
- A3 framed print: 297 x 420mm, 29.7 x 42cm, 11.7 x 16.5 inches. $129.
- A2 framed print: 420 x 594mm, 42 x 59.4cm, 16.5 x 23.4 inches. $179.
Each step up the A series doubles the area of the one below it, so A3 is twice A4 and A2 is twice A3. In practice A4 is a desk, shelf or bedside piece, A3 is the versatile middle that works above a desk or inside a gallery wall, and A2 is the one to order when the piece has to hold a wall on its own. If you are choosing between two sizes for a specific wall, our guide to A4, A3 and A2 print sizes compares them with measurements.
A2 is the largest framed print we build. For anything bigger than that, the piece has to be a canvas: our custom canvas prints run to 60x90cm, which is larger than A1, either as a frameless gallery wrap or with a floating or classic timber frame. The trade-off between the two finishes is set out in our guide to canvas prints versus framed prints.
Framed Prints as Gifts
A framed print is one of the few gifts that is finished when it arrives. There is nothing for the recipient to assemble, no frame to go and buy, and nothing that has to be measured first, because the stand and the hanging hardware are already fitted. That is what makes it work as a gift rather than a project you have handed someone.
- Anniversary: the wedding photograph printed and framed, or a typographic piece carrying the date. A paper anniversary in particular is a literal fit, since the print is on 170gsm matte fine-art paper.
- Wedding and engagement: an engagement photograph or a star map of the night it happened, framed and ready for the couple's first shared wall.
- Housewarming: a piece chosen for the new place, which is more useful on day one than most housewarming gifts.
- New baby and family: a birth record or a first portrait, at A4 for a nursery shelf or A3 for the wall.
- Corporate and team gifts: a framed team photograph or a branded piece for a desk or a reception area.
If the gift has a date attached, order with the dispatch split in mind. A4 is made in Australia and moves in around 6-7 days; A3 and A2 are made to order in New Zealand and take around 10-13 days to dispatch.
Order It Framed, or Print and Frame It Yourself?
Both are legitimate. The honest comparison is about fit and effort rather than price alone.
Framing it yourself gives you the widest choice of mouldings and mount boards, and it is the right call if you want a deep mat, a non-standard moulding or a size the A series does not cover. The cost is that you are matching a print to a frame after the fact, and an off-the-shelf frame that is nominally the right size often is not, which is where the mount board and the extra trip come in.
Ordering it framed removes the matching problem entirely, because the print is made for the frame it ships in. You get one price, one delivery and a piece that is ready to hang or stand out of the box. It is also the safer option to post, because the glazing is shatterproof plexiglass rather than glass, which is why a framed print survives a courier in a way a glass frame frequently does not.
Where we land: if the piece is a photograph, an artwork or a typographic print at A4, A3 or A2 and the point is to have it on the wall rather than to build it, order it framed. If the piece needs a mount, an unusual proportion or a specific moulding, frame it yourself and order the print alone.
