Frequently Asked Questions
What counts as a product label and which page should I start on?

Product labels are the roll labels you apply to a bottle, candle vessel, jar, lid or base. Start on the use page that matches what you are labelling: wine and bottle labels for bottles, candle labels for candles, jar labels for sauces, spreads, pantry goods and dry spice ranges, and honey and jam labels for honey jars and jam, marmalade and preserve jars. If your product is something else, order by shape from the custom labels range.

Which stock survives a fridge, an ice bucket or oil?

White Synthetic with Matte Laminate or Gloss Laminate is the stock to choose when a label will meet condensation, an ice bucket, chilled storage, oils or regular handling. The acrylic adhesive is stable from -20 degrees C to 80 degrees C and resists oils and moisture. Cast paper is not water-resistant and suits dry shelves only. Clear Synthetic with Gloss Varnish gives a transparent no-label look on glass or coloured containers.

What is the minimum order and what can I do under 500 labels?

A run starts at 500 labels for every design and cut size. You can increase in steps of 500 up to 5,000, and each design sits on its own roll. If you need fewer than 500, or single hand-applied pieces instead of a roll, order from the custom stickers range.

Can several designs or flavours go on one order?

Yes. Up to five different designs can be printed on one order, each design on its own roll. That means several flavours, varieties or label versions can be produced without placing separate orders. The minimum still applies per design and per size, so each design roll needs to meet the 500 label minimum.

Do the rolls suit a label applicator and how do I set the unwind direction?

Yes. The labels are die cut on rolls, so they load into semi-automatic and automatic label applicators as well as being easy to apply by hand. When you review the design proof, confirm the unwind direction you need and we will set the roll to match.

How does artwork and proofing work?

You supply print-ready artwork as a PDF, SVG or Adobe Illustrator file with 3mm bleed. A final design proof is emailed before anything is printed, and printing starts only once you approve it. If you do not have print-ready artwork, a Design Artwork Package is available with an artwork fix, custom design or logo service. You supply the artwork and any wording the product needs.

Product Labels by Product Type

You already know the product and the container. This category is organised by what is being labelled, so you can move straight from your bottle, candle vessel or jar to the right label pages. Once there, choose a shape, size and stock for the conditions the product actually lives in: chilled storage, handling, oils or a dry shelf. Our product labels and packaging labels are die cut roll labels, printed one up.

Shop by Product

Each page filters the range by the product, so you are not comparing shapes and stocks that do not suit the container.

  • Start with wine and bottle labels for wine, beer, spirit, sauce, oil and drink bottles, with rectangle, oval, rounded corner, circle and custom die-cut shapes.
  • Choose candle labels for candle vessels, tin lids and jar bases, with circle, square, rectangle, rounded corner and custom die-cut shapes.
  • Pick jar labels for sauces, spreads, pantry goods and dry spice ranges in jars, with all six label shapes available.
  • Order honey and jam labels for honey jars and jam, marmalade and preserve jars, available across all six label shapes.

Choosing a Stock for the Conditions

A bottle that goes into a fridge, an ice bucket or a cold room needs White Synthetic with Matte Laminate or Gloss Laminate, because condensation is water on the label. White Cast Paper suits dry goods and a gift bottle, not wet conditions. Candle labels sit on the outside of the vessel, where they are handled, wiped and exposed to fragrance oil; this laminated synthetic stock resists oils and handling. Clear Synthetic with Gloss Varnish gives clear glass a no-label look. A jar that goes into a fridge or gets wiped down also needs the laminated synthetic stock.

Shapes, Sizes and Pairings

The shape range runs from 25mm to 200mm. Across the category the shapes are circle, square, rectangle, oval, rounded corner and custom die-cut, and each use page shows only the shapes that suit that product. On a bottle, a rectangle or oval suits the front label and a circle can cover the neck. On a jar, a round label on the lid plus a rectangle or oval on the body is a common pairing. If you need a size outside the listed range, custom sizes are quoted by email at printshop@paperlust.co.

Rolls, Quantities and Multiple Designs

Every product label is die cut and supplied on rolls of 500, ready for hand application and for semi-automatic or automatic label applicators. The minimum order is one roll of 500 per design and per size. The quantity ladder runs 500 to 5,000 in steps of 500, and up to five different designs can be printed on one order, each design on its own roll. The unwind direction can be requested at proofing. If you need fewer than 500 labels, or single hand-applied pieces instead of a roll, order from the custom stickers range.

Labelling Something Else

If your product is not a bottle, a candle or a jar, order by shape from the custom labels range. Skincare, soap, coffee, boxes, pouches and mailers are covered there on the same stocks and finishes. For a product like skincare, soap or coffee, choose the shape that fits the container, then apply the same stock guidance for moisture, oil or dry shelf conditions. Custom product labels in the shape range can be ordered as circle, square, rectangle, oval, rounded corner or custom die-cut, and the same material guidance applies.
