Honey and Jam Labels

Honey and Jam Labels are custom printed roll labels for honey and jam jars, printed one up and die cut and supplied on a roll of 500. Beekeepers, jam and preserve makers, market stall and farm gate sellers, hamper and favour makers order them for front of jar labels, lid labels and wrap labels.

White Synthetic with Matte Laminate or Gloss Laminate is the waterproof stock for jars that get sticky, wiped down or kept in the fridge, and its adhesive handles cold, condensation, oils and moisture. White Cast Paper with Matte Laminate or Gloss Laminate is a cost effective paper stock for jars that stay dry on a pantry shelf. Clear Synthetic with Gloss Varnish gives a no label look on glass so the colour of the honey or jam shows through the label.

Choose a shape, size, stock and finish, upload your artwork with a 3mm bleed, and approve the emailed proof. 48 hour production begins only after you approve the proof.

Specification

Supplied on rolls, one-up, 500 labels per roll, ready for hand application and for semi-automatic or automatic label applicators. The unwind direction can be requested at proofing.

Stocks: white cast paper or white synthetic film, each with matte or gloss laminate. Clear synthetic film with a gloss varnish.

  • For custom size enquiry, please contact printshop@paperlust.co
  • Waterproof synthetic film: The synthetic stock shrugs off sticky honey, jam and oils and keeps its printed surface clean when wiped down.
  • Adhesive holds through condensation: The adhesive service range spans minus 20 degrees C to 80 degrees C, holding on glass through fridge condensation and sticky handling.
  • Matte or gloss laminate: A protective laminate layer shields the printed surface from moisture, oils, cleaning agents and the sticky hands that handle preserve jars.
  • Clear transparent finish: Clear synthetic film gives glass jars a no label look, letting the natural colour of honey or jam show through the printed design.
  • Die cut outline: Custom die cut labels follow the outline of your artwork, so a honeycomb, bee or fruit silhouette becomes the edge of the label.
  • Vibrant digital colour: Digital CMYK printing holds fine text and rich colour, giving beekeepers and preserve makers a printed surface that stays sharp on the jar.
  • Roll applicator format: Roll format labels load cleanly into semi automatic and automatic label applicators, suiting beekeepers and preserve makers who label jar after jar.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which label stock should I choose for sticky honey and jam jars that get wiped down?

White Synthetic with Matte Laminate or Gloss Laminate is the right stock for jars that get sticky, wiped down or kept in the fridge. It is waterproof and scuff resistant, and its adhesive resists oils and moisture.

Will the labels survive the fridge and condensation?

White Synthetic with Matte or Gloss Laminate handles chilled jars and condensation. Its acrylic adhesive stays stable from minus 20 degrees C to 80 degrees C. White Cast Paper is not water resistant, so keep it for dry pantry jars.

What is the minimum order, and what if I need fewer than 500 labels?

The minimum order is one roll of 500 labels per design and per size. If you need fewer than 500, order the sticker version of the same shape instead.

What size label suits a lid?

A 50mm circle is a common lid label. Circle options include 30mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 75mm, 90mm, 100mm and 150mm rounds, and square options include 30mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 75mm and 100mm squares.

What size suits the front of a standard jar?

A 70mm W x 40mm H rectangle or a 50mm W x 100mm H oval both work as front labels on many standard jars. Larger options such as 70mm W x 120mm H and 100mm W x 150mm H suit taller jars.

Should I choose clear or white labels for glass jars?

Clear Synthetic with Gloss Varnish gives a no label look and lets the honey or jam colour show through the glass. White Synthetic or White Cast Paper gives a solid printed background and stronger contrast for your design and wording.

What does a run of 500 labels cost?

A 30mm W x 30mm H rounded corner label in White Cast Paper with Matte Laminate costs $160.16 for 500 labels. A 50mm circle in White Synthetic with Matte Laminate costs $168.74 for 500.

How many designs can I order for different flavours?

You can print up to 5 different designs in one order, with each design on its own roll. Each design and size has a minimum of one roll of 500 labels.

Do I need to supply artwork and will I see a proof?

You upload the artwork and any wording your product needs. We email a final design proof before printing starts, and 48 hour production starts only once you approve it.

How much is delivery?

Delivery is a $10 flat rate Australia wide, with express available at checkout. For a custom size quote, email printshop@paperlust.co.

A front label, a lid label or a clear wrap on the jar

Custom honey labels and honey jar labels share the same roll format as jam jar labels: printed one up, die cut and supplied on a roll of 500. Use a rectangle for the front of the jar, a circle for the lid, or a clear label that lets the honey or jam show through the glass. For spice, pantry, candle and storage jars, see jar labels instead.

Which stock suits the jar and how it is handled

Choose the stock by where the jar lives and how it gets cleaned.

  • White Synthetic with Matte Laminate or Gloss Laminate suits jars that get sticky, wiped down or kept in the fridge, and its adhesive resists oils and moisture.
  • White Cast Paper with Matte Laminate or Gloss Laminate is a cost effective paper stock for jars that stay dry on a pantry shelf.
  • Clear Synthetic with Gloss Varnish gives a no label look on glass and lets the colour of the honey or jam show through.

The waterproof white range is covered on the waterproof vinyl labels page.

Shapes, sizes and the job each one does

Match the shape to the part of the jar you are labelling.

  • Circle: 30mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 75mm, 90mm, 100mm and 150mm rounds for lids and round jar fronts.
  • Square: 30mm, 40mm, 50mm, 60mm, 75mm and 100mm squares for lids and small jars.
  • Rectangle: 25mm W x 50mm H, 25mm W x 70mm H, 50mm W x 100mm H, 70mm W x 40mm H, 70mm W x 120mm H, 100mm W x 150mm H for the front of the jar.
  • Rounded Corner: 30mm W x 30mm H, 30mm W x 100mm H, 50mm W x 50mm H, 50mm W x 150mm H, 75mm W x 75mm H, 75mm W x 200mm H, 120mm W x 120mm H for a softer outline.
  • Oval: 30mm W x 100mm H, 50mm W x 100mm H, 75mm W x 150mm H, 100mm W x 200mm H for tall fronts.
  • Custom Die-Cut: cut to the outline of your own artwork, in 30mm W x 30mm H, 30mm W x 100mm H, 50mm W x 50mm H, 50mm W x 150mm H, 75mm W x 75mm H, 75mm W x 200mm H and 120mm W x 120mm H for a honeycomb, a bee or a fruit shape.

Clear Synthetic is available on circle, square, rectangle, rounded corner and custom die cut, not on oval. The transparent film range is covered on the clear labels page.

Price and quantity ladder for one design

The smallest label on the page, a 30mm W x 30mm H rounded corner in White Cast Paper with Matte Laminate, costs $160.16 for a roll of 500. A 50mm circle in White Synthetic with Matte Laminate, a common lid label, costs $168.74 for 500; the same label is $198.77 for 1,000 and $394.68 for 5,000. A 70mm W x 40mm H rectangle in White Synthetic with Matte Laminate for the front of a jar costs $211.75 for 500 and $453.31 for 5,000. You can order any quantity from 500 to 5,000 in steps of 500, with a minimum of one roll of 500 per design and per size. Up to 5 different designs can print in one order, each design on its own roll, so one label order can cover several honey or jam flavours.

Ordering, proofing and delivery

Prepare your own artwork and any wording your product needs, add a 3mm bleed, and upload the file when you order. We email a final design proof before anything is printed, and 48 hour production starts only once you approve the proof. Printing is handled in Melbourne. Delivery is a $10 flat rate Australia wide, with express available at checkout. Artwork Fix $19 AUD, Custom Design $59 AUD and Logo Service $19 to $75 AUD are available if your file needs help. For a custom size, email printshop@paperlust.co. For other packaged food, see food labels.

Applying labels to honey and jam jars

Rolls of 500 suit hand application and semi automatic or automatic label applicators. Request the unwind direction at proofing so the labels feed the right way in your applicator. Apply them to a clean, dry jar, and the laminate protects the printed surface when honey or jam runs down the side and the jar is wiped.
