DL Booklets

A DL booklet is a multi-page booklet trimmed to 99 x 210mm, the same footprint as a standard DL envelope. The DL format is tall and narrow, making it natural to hold, easy to store in a counter display, and ideal for mailing flat without folding. Compared to A5 (148 x 210mm), DL is narrower and more pocket-friendly; compared to A4, it is a third the width. DL booklets suit shorter multi-page formats where portability and a polished, professional finish matter more than page area.

DL is the standard format for bar and restaurant menu printing across Australia. The tall, narrow page reads naturally as a drinks list and suits cocktail menus, wine lists, beer lists, spirits programs, café menus and dessert menus. Saddle-stitched options accommodate menus from 8 to 32 pages, comfortably housing seasonal cocktail programs, full wine lists organised by region, and combined food-plus-drinks menus. For wipe-clean covers that survive busy services, select a 250gsm cover at checkout and add gloss or matt lamination: gloss intensifies photography-led menus, matt suits the editorial restraint of fine-dining venues, speakeasies and contemporary bars. For shorter-run or lighter-weight menus, the 170gsm cover in gloss or matt is also available at checkout. For larger full-dinner menus, the wider A5 Booklet format may suit better.

DL booklets are the natural fit for hotel compendium printing, in-room guide printing and concierge welcome books across Australian hospitality. The slim format sits well on a bedside table or desk, and the saddle-stitched binding lies flat for easy reading. For properties that want an editorial, hotel-grade cover finish, select the 250gsm cover at checkout and add matt lamination; for a more decorative property logo on the cover, flat foil is available as a custom-quote upgrade, with metallic gold or silver foil monograms pairing especially well with matt lamination. Every DL booklet is printed on either 170gsm or 250gsm cover stock with full-colour digital print. At checkout, choose from six cover finishes:

170gsm cover, gloss finish (unlaminated) is a lighter cover weight with a bright, reflective uncoated surface. The right pick when mailing weight matters or for shorter-run menus and bag inserts where vivid colour reproduction still matters.

170gsm cover, matt finish (unlaminated) is a lighter cover weight with a soft, low-sheen uncoated surface. Suits event programs, property guides and editorial pocket booklets where lower mailing weight and an understated cover work together.

250gsm cover, gloss finish (unlaminated) is the full cover weight with a bright, reflective uncoated surface. A substantial cover with vivid colour, suited to bar menus, retail lookbooks and any project where the cover needs more body in hand.

250gsm cover, matt finish (unlaminated) is the full cover weight with a soft, low-sheen uncoated surface. Suits property guides, capability statements, and hotel compendiums where understatement signals craft.

250gsm gloss laminated is the full cover weight with a bright, reflective laminated surface. Wipe-clean for high-traffic hospitality services, the most durable option for cocktail menus and retail catalogues that handle heavy use.

250gsm matt laminated is the full cover weight with a soft, tactile laminated surface. The premium feel for fine-dining cocktail menus, hotel in-room compendiums, real estate prestige guides and editorial fashion lookbooks where the cover finish has to signal quality.

On the order page, the lamination selector appears once you choose the 250gsm cover. The 170gsm cover ships uncoated only.

For projects where the cover deserves an additional premium accent, flat foil in a range of metallic and pigment colours is available as a custom-quote upgrade. Flat foil is applied to the printed cover and pairs especially well with matt lamination on hotel compendiums, fine-dining menus and high-end property guides. Available foil shades, including gold, silver, rose gold, copper, and selected pigment colours, are confirmed with our team at quote stage. Flat foil is not currently available on the standard order page. To add flat foil to your DL booklet order, place your standard order with your chosen cover stock and finish, then contact our customer service team for a custom quote covering your flat foil colour and updated timeline.

Saddle-stitched binding means the folded pages are stapled along the spine, two metal staples through the centre fold. The result is a flat-opening booklet with no spine bulk. DL is well suited to saddle stitching because the narrow format stays flat and readable without a heavy cover or rigid spine. Saddle stitching works best for shorter page counts in multiples of four, for instance 8, 12, 16, 20, 24, 28, or 32 pages. For higher page counts where spine thickness would cause pages to bow, perfect-bound A5 or A4 formats are a better fit.

Supplying print-ready files reduces production time and avoids proof corrections:

• File formats accepted: PDF, SVG, or Adobe Illustrator (.ai)
• Add 3mm bleed on all sides with crop marks included
• Outline all fonts or vectorise all text before saving
• Embed all images at 300dpi or higher
• If your file includes a dieline, set it to 100% Magenta Spot Colour on the top layer
• Pages should be supplied in multiples of four (covers count as 4 pages)
• For flat foil covers, supply the foil artwork as a separate layer flagged for foil application

Production takes 3-7 working days after you approve your digital proof. We email your proof and only begin printing after written sign-off. Delivery from our Melbourne studio to anywhere in Australia: Express via Startrack is 1-2 business days to metro areas and 3-5 business days to regional areas; Standard via Australia Post is 2-5 business days metro and 4-6 business days regional. International orders ship via DHL Express at a flat rate of AUD $35, arriving in 2-4 working days. Orders with flat foil upgrades may require additional production time, confirmed with you at quote stage.
