White Ink Menus

White ink menus bring opaque white printing to coloured stock, creating a bold, high-contrast look that suits any hospitality setting. Standard CMYK printing treats white as an absence of ink, so it simply disappears on dark paper. White ink is a dedicated fifth colour laid down directly on the stock, keeping your text, logos and design elements crisp and bright on deep black, navy or burgundy card.

The result is a menu that photographs well in dim restaurant lighting, pairs naturally with a minimal design aesthetic, and signals genuine print craft to guests. The natural, unlaminated finish preserves the tactile quality of the coloured stock itself, which is a deliberate premium choice rather than a downgrade.

Produced in Melbourne at our Oakleigh South studio and shipped Australia-wide. Starting from $13.50 inc. GST, with production of 2-5 working days after design proof approval.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is white ink printing?

White ink printing uses an opaque white ink as a dedicated fifth colour, applied directly to the surface of coloured or dark paper stock. Unlike standard CMYK printing, which produces white by leaving the paper bare, white ink sits on top of the stock and reflects light independently of the paper colour beneath. This means text, logos and fine details remain crisp and legible on black, navy, forest green, burgundy or any other dark card.

Can you print white on black or dark-coloured paper?

Yes, that is exactly what this product is. White ink menus are printed on coloured stock including Black, Navy, Forest Green, Burgundy and Seedling Green. The opaque white ink is laid down directly on the dark paper so your design stays bright and high-contrast regardless of the background colour. Standard CMYK printing cannot achieve this result on dark stock.

What coloured stock options are available?

White ink menus are available on Black, Navy, Forest Green, Burgundy and Seedling Green coloured stock. Some of these colours are also offered in a lighter gsm option. If you need a different colourstock shade, contact our customer service team, additional options are available on request.

Is white ink printing on both sides included?

Yes. White ink printing on both sides is included as standard. Your cover and reverse page can each carry white ink design elements without any additional charge.

How long does production take?

Production takes 2-5 working days after your design proof has been approved. You will receive a digital proof via email before any printing begins. If any artwork adjustments are needed, our team will flag these at the proof stage so they do not delay production.

How are the menus supplied, do I need to fold them myself?

White ink menus are supplied as flat sheets. If you choose a folded format, score lines are added before dispatch so the fold is accurate and consistent. Final folding and assembly is completed by you. The menus are not pre-folded on dispatch.

How do I set up my artwork file for white ink printing?

Your artwork should include a separate layer for the white ink, typically set as a spot colour named White in your design software. All fonts should be outlined and all images embedded. Include 3mm bleed and crop marks. Our team reviews your file during the proofing stage and will let you know if any adjustments are needed before production starts.

Where are white ink menus printed, and do you ship across Australia?

You choose between two flat-rate shipping options, with the exact rate shown at checkout: Express delivery reaches metro areas in 1-2 business days and regional areas in 3-5 business days (via StarTrack), and Standard delivery reaches metro areas in 2-5 business days and regional areas in 4-6 business days (via Australia Post).

What are white ink menus?

White ink menus use opaque white ink printed directly on coloured card stock to produce text and graphics that stay visible and sharp on dark backgrounds. Standard digital printing cannot achieve this because CMYK treats white as an absence of colour, on black or navy stock, anything meant to appear white simply vanishes. White ink printing adds a dedicated fifth colour to the press, laying down an opaque white layer that reflects light against the darker stock beneath.

The high-contrast effect photographs well in low ambient light, which makes white ink particularly suited to moody bar and restaurant environments. Because the ink is opaque rather than translucent, fine lines and small type reproduce cleanly without halos or fade. The natural, unlaminated finish retains the feel of the coloured stock, giving the finished menu a tactile premium quality that coated laminates tend to mask.

Colours, specs and finish

White ink menus are available on five coloured stock options:

  • Black
  • Navy
  • Forest Green
  • Burgundy
  • Seedling Green

Some colours are available in a lighter gsm option for a different hand feel. Additional colourstock shades are available on request via our customer service team.

White ink printing on both sides is included as standard, so your cover and reverse carry equal visual weight. Menus are supplied as flat sheets. Folded formats include score lines so the fold is accurate, but final assembly is completed by you. The finish is natural and unlaminated, the tactile quality of the coloured stock is part of the product.

Artwork requires a separate white layer, typically a spot colour named White in your design software. Our team reviews your file at the proofing stage and flags any setup issues before printing begins.

Use cases: cafes, bars, restaurants and events

White ink printing suits any hospitality or event context where a standard white-paper menu would feel out of place.

  • Cafe and restaurant menus: black or navy stock with white text creates a clean, modern look that holds up across seasons and rebrands
  • Cocktail lists and drinks menus: the darker aesthetic pairs naturally with bar and nightlife branding
  • Dessert cards and tasting notes: smaller-format white ink printing works well for courses or degustation events
  • Seasonal specials: short print runs are practical for menus that change regularly
  • Event service and catering: folded formats suit table placement at functions and corporate events

For venues that also need a full-colour everyday menu, standard menus are available in the same Restaurants and Cafe category.
