Frequently Asked Questions
How long does production take for rectangle banners?
Standard production is 2-3 working days after artwork approval. Contact our team if you have a tight deadline to discuss availability. Production time does not include delivery.
What file format should I provide my artwork in?
PDF, AI, or EPS are preferred for print-ready artwork. High-resolution PNG or JPG (minimum 150dpi at final printed size) are also accepted. If you are unsure, send your files to our team before ordering — we assess them for free.
Will I receive a design proof before printing?
Yes. Every order receives a digital design proof before production begins. You can request changes, and production starts only after you approve the final proof.
What is the difference between a rectangle banner and a block flag?
The terms are used interchangeably. Rectangle banner, block flag, and rectangular flag all refer to the same straight-edged vertical flag format.
Are rectangle banners more or less wind-resistant than teardrop banners?
Teardrop banners generally perform better in high-wind conditions because the rounded top distributes force more evenly. Rectangle banners perform well in moderate wind but can be more prone to flapping in very gusty conditions, particularly at larger sizes.
Can I order a replacement flag without new hardware?
Yes. Our replacement flags service lets you order new printed fabric to fit your existing poles and bases — the most cost-effective way to update your artwork or refresh worn banners seasonally.
Do you offer volume discounts on rectangle banners?
Yes. Per-unit pricing decreases with quantity. Contact our team for a custom quote on orders of 10 or more rectangle banners.
Are rectangle banners suitable for permanent outdoor installation?
Rectangle banners are designed for semi-permanent and temporary outdoor use. Expected outdoor lifespan is 6-18 months. For long-term outdoor signage, consider our corflute A-frames or PVC signs.
Where is Paperlust Print Shop based?
We are based in Melbourne, Australia. All rectangle banners are printed in our Melbourne facility. We ship Australia-wide via tracked courier services.
Can you ship rectangle banners internationally?
Yes. We ship to New Zealand, Southeast Asia, the UK, and other markets. Contact our team before placing your order for an international shipping quote.

What Are Rectangle Banners (Block Flags)?
Rectangle banners are outdoor flag signage with a straight, rectangular shape — sometimes called block flags or rectangular flags to distinguish them from curved formats like teardrop banners or bow banners. The rectangular format offers a larger, more structured display surface, making them ideal for applications where a bold, corporate presentation is required. Car dealerships, hotel forecourts, corporate events, and government installations often prefer rectangle banners because the straight-edged shape projects a more formal, professional appearance. The rectangular shape also lends itself to bold photographic backgrounds and full-bleed graphic designs.
Rectangle Banners vs. Teardrop and Bow Banners: Which Is Right for You?
Choosing between rectangle, teardrop, and bow banners comes down to your environment and brand aesthetic.
- Teardrop banners — most wind-resistant, curved top channels wind evenly across the face, suits most outdoor applications.
- Bow banners — most distinctive silhouette, stands out in busy streetscapes, great for events and retail.
- Rectangle banners — most graphic flexibility, straight edges mean your artwork fills the full face without shape-fitting constraints. Right for road frontage, corporate events, hotel forecourts.
Rectangle Banner Sizes for Every Application
Rectangle banners are available in three standard heights.
- Small (approximately 1.5-2.1m) — ideal for indoor use, events with height restrictions, and compact outdoor footpath positions.
- Medium (approximately 2.1-3.2m) — the most versatile size, suits most outdoor applications including retail frontages, carparks, and events.
- Large (approximately 3.1-4.6m) — maximum visual impact at car dealerships, shopping centres, festival perimeters, and corporate event venues.
Custom sizes are available — contact our team for a quote.
Single-Sided vs. Double-Sided Rectangle Banners
Single-sided rectangle banners are the most cost-effective option and suit the majority of applications. Your artwork is printed on the front face; the reverse shows a mirror bleed-through.
Double-sided rectangle banners use a blockout centre layer sewn between two independently printed faces, providing clear artwork on both sides with no bleed-through. Double-sided is the right choice for pedestrian crossings, traffic islands, event walkways, and any position where the banner is viewed from both sides simultaneously.
Base Options for Rectangle Banners
Rectangle banners require a stable base, particularly at larger sizes.
- Ground spikes — most portable, suit grass or soft ground.
- Cross bases — suit hard surfaces: concrete, pavement, tiles, and indoor floors. Four-point contact without drilling.
- Heavy-duty plate bases — essential for large rectangle banners in exposed locations or coastal and high-wind environments. Water-fill or sand-fill options available for maximum ballast.
All base types are included in complete rectangle banner kits.
Where Rectangle Banners Work Best in Australia
Rectangle banners are favoured by industries that need a bold, clean outdoor display with maximum graphic flexibility.
- Car dealerships along road frontages and forecourts
- Hotels and resorts at venue entrances and function centre doorways
- Corporate events and conferences as branded backdrops and wayfinding displays
- Shopping centres in carparks for seasonal campaigns
- Government and council for community event branding
- Construction at site hoardings and new development launches
- Sports stadiums and arenas for sponsor branding
Artwork for Rectangle Banners: Getting the Best Result
The rectangular format gives you a clean canvas and more layout flexibility than shaped flag formats. Design in a vertical format (typically 1:3 to 1:5 width to height ratio). Place primary content in the upper two-thirds of the design. Use bold, high-contrast colours and large type — minimum 80pt for text readable at 5m.
The rectangular shape is particularly well-suited to full-bleed photographic backgrounds. File requirements: PDF, AI, or EPS preferred. Include 5mm bleed. Keep critical content 20mm from all edges. If you need help preparing your files, see our Artwork Services.

More Banner Styles for Every Setup
Rectangle banners handle the wall and backdrop brief well, but the full banner family covers a lot more ground. Bow banners and teardrop banners both stake into the ground and thrive outdoors, ideal for markets, festivals, and building frontage.
If you need a portable indoor option, X-banner stands set up in minutes for trade shows or pop-up retail. Premium retractable banners are a reliable pull-up choice for lobbies and events where fast setup matters. For heavy-duty outdoor applications, vinyl banners offer weather-resistant large-format coverage, while corflute A-frames are hard to beat for footpath signage and real estate promotions.
Beyond Rectangle Banners
Rectangle banners are the reliable choice for shopfront displays, event backdrops, fence signage, and building wraps where a flat, consistent surface is the priority. When a different banner format or freestanding structure suits the venue better, the full outdoor range is available. Teardrop banners and bow banners bring a feather-flag silhouette that moves in the wind and draws attention at road level.
For campaigns running over longer periods or in varied weather, polyester banners provide a durable fabric option for both indoor and outdoor use. Vinyl banners are the practical short-run choice for markets, events, and temporary outdoor installs. When foot traffic at a pavement entrance needs guiding, corflute A-frames are a cost-effective freestanding option. For rigid, semi-permanent outdoor signage on fences or walls, PVC signs suit long-term installations. For full event backdrops behind a photo line, registration desk, or sponsor wall, a stretch fabric media wall delivers a seamless freestanding fabric display.
