What should I put on a mechanic or car detailing business card?
Start with the business name and the work you do, then the phone number you answer during business hours. Add your repairer licence number where your state requires it, your ABN where it helps with quoting, the main services, and the area you cover.
Include a QR code that opens a booking page, quote form or review link. For car detailing, put interior detail, paint protection or mobile wash in the service line and keep the back for a next-service reminder.
Does a mechanic need a licence number on signs and advertising?
In New South Wales, Fair Trading requires a motor vehicle repairer licence if you own or run a repair business. The licensee's name exactly as it appears on the licence, then licence number or an abbreviation and the number, must appear on signage or on the vehicle for mobile work. A business name may appear but cannot replace the licensee's name. In Western Australia, repair businesses must be licensed. Consumer Protection asks whether the licensed name and licence number appear on all advertisements and business papers. For other states and car detailing, check with your state office.
Which card stock suits a mechanic or detailing workshop?
Standard Business Cards are the practical starting point. They print at 90 x 55 mm on 300 GSM Matte, Linen, Cotton or Metallic, or on 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate, with a single side or both.
Flat Foil Business Cards add mirror-bright gold, silver, rose gold, copper or holographic foil on one side for a cleaner finish. Duplex Business Cards bond two stocks together into a thicker card with two colours on the edge. A layout made for Standard also carries over to Rounded Corner and Recycled cards.
How can a business card remind a customer of the next service?
Use the back of the card as a service reminder. Print the next due date or a mileage interval and add a QR code that opens a booking page for logbook servicing, tyres or a detail refresh.
Keep the code large enough to scan from a phone. When the vehicle is due, one card in the glovebox gives the driver your number and the booking link.
How does ordering a ready design work?
Pick a design and it opens on the product page with the design and recommended print options already chosen. Change any option, add the card to cart, then enter your name, business name, phone, email and any required licence number or ABN.
We set those details into the layout and email a PDF proof within 1 to 2 business days. Nothing goes to press until you approve it. Ready designs have no set-up charge, and production starts after approval.

What your mechanic business cards should show
Most mechanic business cards get one quick look while the bonnet is still up or the key is still in the ignition. Lay out the details in the order people look for them.
- Business name and what you actually do, so a stranger knows you fix or clean cars, not supply parts
- The phone number you can answer during working hours
- Your state repairer licence number or registration number where your trade requires it
- Your ABN where it helps with quoting and invoicing
- Main services in plain words, such as logbook servicing, air-conditioning, tyre work, wheel alignment or paint correction
- The suburbs or region you cover, especially if you run a mobile service
- A QR code that opens a quote form, a booking page or a review link
For car detailing business cards, swap the services line to interior detail, paint protection or mobile wash and point the QR code at a booking page.
Licence numbers and business details, state by state
In New South Wales, Fair Trading requires a motor vehicle repairer licence if you own or run a repair business. The licensee's name exactly as it appears on the licence, then the words licence number or an abbreviation and the number, must appear on the workshop signage or, for a mobile operation, on the vehicle. A business name may appear as well but cannot replace the licensee's name. Carry the same wording onto the card so the details match.
Western Australia's repair trade is governed by the Motor Vehicle Repairers Act 2003. Consumer Protection's checklist asks whether the licensed business name and licence number appear on every published advertisement and on business papers like quotes and invoices.
Car detailing that only cleans and polishes has no state licence rule we can confirm. Outside New South Wales and Western Australia, check with your state fair trading or consumer affairs office before you print.
ASIC does not require a company to show its ACN on business cards, but it does require the company name and ACN, or ABN where the ABN contains the ACN, on invoices, receipts, orders and letterhead. The ATO says quote your ABN on invoices when you supply another business, and it calls showing the ABN on stationery a good idea.
Choosing the card stock for your trade
Most layouts on this page were built for Standard Business Cards. Those print at 90 x 55 mm on 300 GSM Matte, Linen, Cotton or Metallic, or on 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate. Choose a single side or both; the four 300 GSM stocks carry no laminate.
A layout made for Standard also carries over to Rounded Corner and Recycled Business Cards, so one design works across more shapes and materials.
When you want light to do the talking, Flat Foil Business Cards carry gold, silver, rose gold, copper or holographic foil on one side, set level with the surface. Detailers often choose this when the card is part of the first impression on a clean car.
Duplex Business Cards bond two stocks together, one per face, into a thicker card with two colours visible on the edge. It feels closer to a workshop sign than a throwaway slip.
Designs built around foil, spot UV, Scodix, duplex or coloured paper stay on their own card. Many of them also have a Standard edition option, which runs the same layout flat on Standard Business Cards without the finish.
How a ready design becomes your card
Choose a layout from the business card designs gallery. It opens on the product page with the design and print settings already chosen and marked Recommended, but you can change any option.
Enter your name, business name, phone, email and any required licence number or ABN. We place those details into the layout and email a proof within 1 to 2 business days. Change the shape or orientation and we relayout it at no charge. Nothing goes to press until you approve the proof. Ready designs have no set-up charge: you pay the card's print price only.
For changes to the design itself, use the Custom Design service, which provides two first-proof options and three revision rounds. Each product page shows its current production time, and cards are printed in Melbourne.
Carry the same look across the workshop and the van
Once the card is set, the same name and phone number work harder on corflute signs at the workshop gate or in the yard, and on car magnets for a ute or van door so the number travels with the job.
The detailer and mechanic print kit guide shows how to bring cards, signs and magnets into one consistent trade look.
PROOF BEFORE PRINT
Every mechanic or detailing card order includes a free PDF proof. Check the phone number, licence wording and QR code before anything goes to press.
Your cards are printed in Melbourne, and production starts only after you approve the proof.
Ready designs carry no set-up charge, so you pay the card's print price only.
