Frequently Asked Questions
What should a DJ put on a business card?

Use your name or act, your role, mobile number, email, website or Instagram, suburbs or region, and a line inviting people to check dates, book, or request a quote. If you hold a credential, write it exactly as held: WWC number on request, public liability insured, or current test and tag status under AS/NZS 3760.

Does a kids party DJ or entertainer need a blue card or Working with Children Check?

In Queensland, children-focused entertainment or party services need a blue card. In New South Wales, check with the Office of the Children's Guardian before printing. In Victoria, check with the relevant state screening agency before printing. If you hold the relevant screening, add WWC number on request rather than guessing a number.

Can a DJ or party hire card say fully insured?

Leave off fully insured. Use public liability insured only while a current policy is in place. A claim about cover must be accurate under Australian Consumer Law, so keep the phrase narrow and the policy current.

What does tested and tagged mean on a hire business card?

It means your electrical hire gear has current inspection, testing and tagging. In Queensland, each item is tested before every hire, except when it has a fixed safety switch. It also needs six-monthly testing, and the tag should show the next test date. Add the tested and tagged line under AS/NZS 3760 only while tags are current.

What must a celebrant's business card say?

Since 9 December 2017, a Commonwealth registered marriage celebrant must show the celebrant type in advertising, website, social media and business cards. Use marriage celebrant or religious marriage celebrant. Civil marriage celebrant also meets the rule. It does not require a registration number, but if one is printed, match the Register wording exactly.

How does ordering a ready design work?

Choose a design, add it to cart, and enter your name, business name, phone, email, and any licence, registration or ABN details. We set those into the layout and email a free PDF proof. Print starts only after you approve. No set-up fee on a ready design, and cards are printed in Melbourne.

Details that fit DJ business cards

For DJ business cards, the details should answer before you repeat yourself. A planner or venue should see your role, contact line, coverage area and booking note without asking twice. The same order suits event business cards for MCs, hosts and event planners. A few layouts also leave space for a QR code pointing to a gallery or reel.

  • your name or act and what you do: mobile DJ, MC, karaoke host, marriage celebrant, photo booth hire, party hire, sound and lighting
  • mobile number and email address
  • website or Instagram handle
  • suburbs or region you cover
  • a line inviting people to check dates, book, or request a quote
  • a current credential written exactly as held: WWC number on request, public liability insured, tested and tagged to AS/NZS 3760, or the celebrant type

Credential lines that fit the trade

No licence rule was found for DJs, MCs, hosts, karaoke hosts, event planners, stylists, balloon artists, photo booth operators, party hire, or live acts, so those cards carry no licence number for that work.

In Queensland, children-focused entertainment or party services need a blue card. The government examples include party entertainment, magic at children's parties, balloon art for children, and children's festivals or community events. Food and drink only, or lighting, sound or equipment only, does not need one.

For hire gear in Queensland, each electrical item is tested before every hire, except when it has a fixed safety switch. It also needs six-monthly inspection, testing and tagging, with a lasting tag showing the next test date. AS/NZS 3760 is the in-service inspection and testing standard. If your gear carries current tags, add the tested and tagged line under AS/NZS 3760.

ASIC guidance does not force companies to put ACN on cards, envelopes or vehicles. The ATO recommends ABN on invoices and other supplier documents, and sees ABN on stationery as good practice. No rule was found requiring a sole trader to print an ABN on a business card.

If you are not sure, ask the relevant state screening body, electrical regulator or venue before printing.

Card options that fit the gig

Most layouts on this page are built around Standard Business Cards. This 90 x 55 mm option comes in 300 GSM Matte, Linen, Cotton or Metallic, or 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate. The four 300 GSM stocks do not use laminate. Choose front only, or front and back.

Coloured Paper Business Cards suit darker or textured surfaces. These use coloured cardstock: 270 GSM Black or Navy, 290 GSM Kraft, 300 GSM Forest Green, Hunter Green, Burgundy, Cream and more. Printing can be CMYK or white ink. On coloured stock, the ink colour follows the colourway you select.

Duplex Business Cards bond two stocks together, one per face, for an extra-thick card. The two colours show along the edge.

If you choose a layout originally built for Standard Business Cards, it can run on Rounded Corner or Recycled cards too. Some layouts built around foil, spot UV, Scodix, duplex, raised foil or coloured stock stay on their own card. Many of them can be offered in a Standard edition: the layout reproduced flat on Standard Business Cards. Each design shows front and back and comes in several colourways.

How a ready design becomes your card

Select a design from the gallery. It opens on the product page for its intended card, with the recommended print options already set. Change any option before you add to cart. After Add to cart, on the Upload Artwork step, enter your name, business name, phone, email, and any licence, registration or ABN details. We set those into the layout and email a free PDF proof within 1 to 2 business days. Nothing prints until you approve. No set-up fee on a ready design. Switch to rounded corners, a circle, an oval, a square, or flip the orientation, and we re-lay the design in-house at no charge. The current production time is on each product page. Browse all business card designs.

Matching the card to the rest of your print

A card can carry the same look as venue pull-up banners beside the DJ booth, or club night posters for a live gig, school disco or private function. For a photo booth business, matching signage at the entrance helps the setup feel intentional. For party hire, sound and lighting, or an event team, the same colours across banners and posters keep the whole event aligned.

You can also extend the same design language to an event and conference print kit for a conference, expo stand or private function.
