Frequently Asked Questions
What should I put on a lawn mowing or landscaping business card?

Lead with the details people look for first: the name clients know you by, what you do, and a phone number that goes straight to you. Add your state-required licence details where structural work applies, and your ABN where it helps with quoting other businesses. Then list your main services, the area you cover, and a QR code that points to a quote form, booking page or reviews.

Do landscapers need a licence number on their business card?

Queensland QBCC says yes for licensed structural landscapers: business cards must show the licensed name, a statement that they are licensed under the QBCC Act, and the licence number, for building work valued over $3,300. New South Wales Fair Trading does not name business cards. It requires a licensed contractor's name and licence number in all advertising for structural landscaping work valued over $5,000, including GST. Lawn mowing and garden maintenance are not named by either regulator. If your round includes structural work, check with your state regulator before you print.

Which card stock suits a landscaping business card?

Standard Business Cards are the workhorse: 300 GSM Matte, Linen, Cotton or Metallic, or 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate, at 90 x 55 mm. Coloured Paper Business Cards in kraft and greens suit garden and outdoor work, printed in CMYK or white ink on coloured cardstock. Recycled Business Cards on 350 GSM ecoStar+ 100% recycled uncoated board suit a garden or landscape business that wants the paper to carry part of the story.

Is a recycled business card a good choice for a garden business?

Yes. Recycled Business Cards use 350 GSM ecoStar+ 100% recycled uncoated board, bright white and about 0.45 mm thick; the paper maker's spec sheet lists FSC Recycled and EU Ecolabel. At 90 x 55 mm they give a softer, uncoated feel that suits native garden, mowing and maintenance work.

How does ordering a ready landscaping design work?

Choose a design in the gallery and it opens on the product page with the recommended print options already selected. On the Upload Artwork step, add the name you trade under, phone number, email, and any licence, registration or ABN details your state or work requires. We set those details into the design and email a free PDF proof within 1 to 2 business days. Nothing prints until you approve the proof, and a ready design has no design fee.

What a lawn mowing and landscaping business card should show

A card handed over a fence or pulled from the glovebox while the mower cools down has to survive a two-second read. Put the details in the order a caller wants them, and lawn mowing business cards and landscaping business cards both do their job before you pack the trailer.

  • Who you are and what you do: the name clients know you by, with the trade clear at a glance.
  • Your phone number, because most people look for that first when they want a quote or a call-back.
  • State-required licence details where your work includes structural landscaping.
  • Your ABN where it helps, especially when you quote or invoice other businesses.
  • The services that match your niche: lawn mowing and garden maintenance rounds, garden design, paving and retaining walls, tree lopping, turf supply and laying, irrigation, garden lighting, native gardens, pools and outdoor living.
  • The area you cover, so the card tells people whether you work in their suburb.
  • A QR code to a quote form, booking page or review link. Most designs on this page include a space for it.

Licence rules for structural landscaping in New South Wales and Queensland

A licence can apply to structural work in two states, and the advertising rules are not the same.

  • New South Wales, Fair Trading: a contractor licence is needed for residential building or trade work valued over $5,000 in labour and materials including GST, including structural landscaping. Structural landscaping covers retaining walls, fencing, driveways, paths, paving, pergolas and decks. A licensed contractor's name and licence number must appear in all advertising.
  • Queensland, QBCC: a licence is needed for building work valued over $3,300; the structural landscaping licence covers carports, decking, fences, pergolas, retaining walls, paving and landscaping drainage. A licensed landscaper's advertising, business cards included, must show the licensed name, a statement that they are licensed under the QBCC Act and the licence number.

Lawn mowing and garden maintenance are not named on either regulator's page. The licence rules above apply to structural work, so if your round includes any of it, check with your state regulator before you print.

A company does not have to put its ACN on a business card, and there is no rule found that a sole trader must print an ABN on a card. The ATO suggests showing an ABN on stationery is a good idea when you work with other businesses.

Which card stock fits a landscaping business card

Landscapers work outside, so a card that lives in a ute door needs to survive moisture and wear.

Most designs on this page are built on Standard Business Cards. Choose 300 GSM Matte, Linen, Cotton or Metallic, or 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate; print front only or front and back, at 90 x 55 mm. The four 300 GSM stocks come without laminate.

For an earthy feel that suits soil and plants, Coloured Paper Business Cards print on coloured cardstock, including 270 GSM Black or Navy, 290 GSM Kraft, and 300 GSM Forest Green, Hunter Green, Burgundy and Cream, in CMYK or white ink.

Recycled Business Cards use 350 GSM ecoStar+ 100% recycled uncoated board, bright white and about 0.45 mm thick. The paper maker's specification sheet lists FSC Recycled and EU Ecolabel, a fit for a garden or tree care business.

Any design built on Standard Business Cards will also print on Rounded Corner Business Cards and Recycled Business Cards. Designs tied to a finish or a particular stock stay on that card; many can still run as a Standard edition, the same layout on Standard Business Cards without the finish. This page includes a smaller set that uses Duplex, Spot UV and Raised Foil.

From a ready design to your finished card

When a mowing round needs cards before the next job, a ready design gets you there fast. Choose one in the gallery and it opens on the product page with the recommended print options already selected. On the Upload Artwork step, enter the name you trade under, phone, email, and any licence, registration or ABN details your work requires. We set those details into the design and email a free PDF proof within 1 to 2 business days. Nothing prints until you approve it, and production starts after approval. Each card's product page shows its current production time. There is no design fee for a ready design; you pay only the card's print price. For other trades, start from the business card designs hub.

Carry the same card details to your signs and ute

The card lives in a wallet. The sign faces the street. Keep the same name, phone and state-required details across both so a passer-by can match the ute to the landscaping business cards you handed them.

For a front yard or building site, put the same details on corflute signs at the entry. For the vehicle itself, car magnets put your name and number on a ute or van door while the job runs.

To build a full set for quotes, invoices, yard signs and the glovebox, start with the print marketing kit for tradies.
