Frequently Asked Questions
What should a photographer put on a business card?

Include your name or studio, the work you shoot, your mobile and email, your website or portfolio, and your Instagram if clients judge your work there. Add the suburb or region you cover and whether you travel. A QR code to a portfolio, reel or session dates helps. Add credentials only as held, such as a CASA drone accreditation or a completed course.

What should a drone photographer's card say about CASA?

For paid photo or video work using a drone of more than 250 g and up to 2 kg, CASA treats that drone as the sub-2 kg excluded category. The operator needs an ARN, RPA operator accreditation, drone registration, and must fly within the standard operating conditions. A business may also need an organisation ARN. No remote pilot licence or ReOC is needed for that work. If you hold the accreditation and choose to reference CASA, print CASA-accredited RPA operator. A ReOC number, written like CASA.ReOC.1234, appears only when the business holds one. Do not use CASA certified or CASA licensed.

Does a newborn or children's photographer need a blue card or Working with Children Check?

In Queensland, you need a blue card when photography services are mainly aimed at children, including newborn, children's performance or organised program photos. If children are not your main focus, one is not needed. In New South Wales, check with the state Office of the Children's Guardian. In Victoria, check with Working with Children Check Victoria before printing.

Can a photographer's card say award winning, certified or that the photos stay the photographer's copyright?

Under Australian Consumer Law, an award claim must name the award, a membership or accreditation must be current, and insured appears only while a current policy is held. Leave off fully insured. The APNPI Safety Awareness Course is training, not a certification. Qualified Newborn Photographer is separate. If you completed the course and choose to print it, describe it as completed, not certified. For private or domestic purpose photos, the client owns the copyright unless the contract says otherwise, so ownership terms belong in the contract or quote.

Which card suits a photographer, a videographer or a property media business?

Most layouts on this page are made for Standard Business Cards, a 90 x 55 mm card in 300 GSM Matte, Linen, Cotton or Metallic, or 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate. Coloured Paper Business Cards suit a studio that wants colour as the main visual element. Flat Foil Business Cards suit a card that needs a foil accent. Choose the stock that matches your portfolio and the sessions you sell.

How does ordering a ready design work?

Choose a layout, and it opens on the card page with the artwork and print settings preselected. After adding to the cart, enter your name, studio, phone, email, ABN if needed, and any licence or registration number where one applies on the artwork upload step. We place those details into the layout and send a complimentary PDF proof by email. Production starts after your approval. There is no set-up fee on a ready design.

What photographer business cards should include

Clients often choose a photo or video studio before seeing a full portfolio. Photographer business cards should answer the first questions while the card is still in the hand.

  • Your name or studio, and the work you shoot, such as family, newborn, pet, headshots, commercial, property, drone or video
  • Mobile number and email
  • Website or portfolio, and Instagram if that is where clients judge your work
  • Suburb or region you cover, and whether you travel
  • A QR code to a portfolio, a reel or session dates
  • Credentials only as held, such as a CASA drone accreditation or a completed course

Claims and credentials to get right

Official checks found no trade licence or protected title for photo or video work, so no licence number is required on the card.

If you use a drone of more than 250 g and up to 2 kg for paid photo or video work, that drone sits in CASA's sub-2 kg excluded category. The operator needs an ARN, an RPA operator accreditation, drone registration, and must fly within the standard operating conditions. A business may also need an organisation ARN. No remote pilot licence or ReOC is needed for that work, and CASA gives photographers and film makers as examples. CASA does not mandate a card line, but you can choose to reference the accreditation. On a card, print CASA-accredited RPA operator. A ReOC number, written like CASA.ReOC.1234, appears only when the business holds one. Do not use CASA certified or CASA licensed.

In Queensland, a blue card is required when photography services are mainly aimed at children, including newborn, children's performance, competition, pageant or organised program photos. If children are not your main focus, one is not needed. A card that mentions it should use blue card held or the exact issued number.

For New South Wales, check with the state Office of the Children's Guardian. For Victoria, check with Working with Children Check Victoria before printing.

The APNPI Safety Awareness Course is training, not a certification. Qualified Newborn Photographer is a separate certification, with accreditation as a further level. If you completed the course and want it on the card, describe it as completed, not certified.

For a private or domestic commission, such as a family, newborn or couples session, the client owns the copyright unless the agreement says otherwise. Put usage terms in the contract or quote, not on the card.

Under Australian Consumer Law, an award claim must name the award, a membership or accreditation must be current, and insured appears only while a current policy is held. Leave off fully insured.

A company ACN is not needed on business cards, while the ATO calls showing a sole trader ABN on stationery a good idea.

If unsure, confirm with CASA or your state children's screening regulator before printing.

Choosing the card behind the design

Photography business cards and videographer cards often need a stock that matches the studio's look and session style. The gallery layouts were built for these card families.

Most are made for Standard Business Cards, a 90 x 55 mm card in 300 GSM Matte, Linen, Cotton or Metallic, or 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate. You can print front only or front and back, and the four 300 GSM stocks do not take laminate. A layout chosen for the standard card can move to rounded or recycled stock without losing the design.

Coloured Paper Business Cards use coloured cardstock such as 270 GSM Black or Navy, 290 GSM Kraft, or 300 GSM Forest Green, Hunter Green, Burgundy or Cream, printed in CMYK or white ink. That suits studios that want colour as the main visual element.

Flat Foil Business Cards use foil that sits level with the card surface, in gold, silver, rose gold, copper or holographic, with foil on one side. Layouts built around a finish, such as foil or duplex, remain tied to their original card. Many can also run as a flat Standard edition.

How a ready design becomes your card

Choose a layout from the gallery. It opens on the card page with the artwork and print settings preselected, and marked Recommended. Preselected options can be changed. After adding to the cart, enter your name, studio, phone, email, ABN if needed, and any licence or registration number where one applies on the artwork upload step. We place those details into the layout and send a complimentary PDF proof by email. Production starts after your approval. A new shape or orientation is relaid out at no extra cost, and the proof reflects the change. On Coloured Paper Business Cards, the ink stays tied to the chosen colourway. Proofs arrive within 1 to 2 business days, and the product page lists the current production time. See other trades in business card designs.

Matching your other print to the card

Photographer business cards are one part of a session. Gift Vouchers suit a family, newborn or mini session that a client wants to give as a present, while Canvas Prints can carry a favourite frame to the wall at home. If you need session materials that sit beside the card, our print kit for photographers helps you match the look.

STUDIO PRINT CHECK

You receive a free PDF proof, and printing waits for your approval. Your studio name, contact line and credentials sit where you want them before client cards go to print.

The cards print in Melbourne. Each product page shows the current production time. There is no set-up fee on a ready design. For photo and video studios, the proof is the last check before cards leave production.
