Foam Board Printing

Foam board combines a lightweight rigid foam core with smooth paper liners on both sides, giving you a print-ready surface that is easy to carry, mount and transport. Full-colour UV printing goes directly onto the board, delivering sharp, vivid results across the full surface area. Every board is printed in Australia.

Choose from standard A4 through to large-format A0 or 600 x 900 mm, in 5 mm thickness for most applications or 10 mm where extra rigidity is needed on bigger formats. Print single or double sided. Instant pricing is available at every quantity break online, so you can order from a single board to 100 or more with no minimum.

Need a board that stands on its own? An optional fold-out strut back turns your board into a free-standing display with no easel required. For a custom outline, our router-cutting service shapes boards to any profile you choose, from arch-top welcome signs to photo cutouts and standees. Just supply your artwork and we build the cutting line for you, with no vector cut file needed on your part.

Foam board is ideal for retail displays, trade show graphics, conference signage, event welcome signs, seating charts, presentation boards and photo enlargements. Boards are designed for indoor use only, as foam core is sensitive to moisture and heat.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can foam board be used outdoors?

No. Foam board is designed for indoor use only. The foam core is not weatherproof and is sensitive to heat and moisture, which can cause warping and surface damage. For outdoor signage, we recommend corflute signs, which are printed on a rigid weatherproof corrugated plastic material.

What is the difference between 5 mm and 10 mm foam board?

5 mm is our standard thickness and suits most applications including A4, A3, A2 and A1 boards. 10 mm provides extra rigidity, which is particularly useful for larger formats such as A0 and 600 x 900 mm where a thinner board can flex more easily. Both thicknesses are available in every size. If you are unsure which to choose, 5 mm works well for the majority of foam board projects.

Can I print on both sides of the foam board?

Yes. We offer both single and double sided printing. Double sided foam board is ideal for freestanding event signs, hanging seating charts, and retail displays viewed from multiple directions. Select your preference when configuring your order.

How does custom shape cutting work? Do I need to supply a cut file?

No cut file is required. Simply supply your artwork and our team builds the cutting line from it. Our router-cutting service can cut boards to almost any custom outline, including arched tops, rounded corners and organic shapes. Very intricate or three-dimensional shapes are handled through our custom quote process. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

Can you make standees, life-size cutouts or big head cutouts?

Yes. Choose the custom shape cutting option and we cut the printed board around your photo or artwork, whether that is a full-body standee, a big head or face cutout, or a mascot or product silhouette. Add the strut back option for a freestanding standee that needs no easel. A0 at 841 x 1189mm is the largest standard size we list. Life-size cutouts above A0 are not selectable on this page; the team handles those as a quote, and the 1200 x 2400mm sheet is the ceiling. If you are looking for a custom cardboard cutout, this is the same product printed on foam board, which is lighter and more rigid than cardboard.

Does the strut back option work on all foam board sizes?

Yes, the strut back option is available on every foam board size from A4 through A0 and 600 x 900mm, and on custom sizes as well. Select the strut option when building your order, and the board arrives with the strut fixed to the back, ready to fold out into a free standing display with no easel required. Because the strut is fitted to the reverse face, it is only available on one sided boards. If you need both faces printed, choose double sided and display the board on an easel or a stand instead.

How do I mount or display my foam board?

There are several easy options. You can lean the board against a wall, place it on an easel or picture stand, or attach it to a flat surface using velcro strips or double-sided tape applied to the smooth paper liner on the back. For a completely freestanding display with no additional hardware, add the optional strut back when ordering.

What is foam board made of?

Foam board consists of a lightweight rigid polystyrene foam core with smooth paper liners bonded to both sides. The paper surface on each face provides an even, print-ready substrate for our full-colour UV printing process. The result is a stiff, flat panel that is lightweight relative to its size.

What type of printing is used on foam boards?

We use full-colour direct UV printing, which bonds ink directly onto the foam board surface. This process delivers sharp detail, vivid colours and good durability for indoor display. All foam boards are printed in Australia.

Can I order just one foam board?

Yes. There is no minimum order quantity. You can order a single board and work up to 100 or more. Instant online pricing is published at every quantity break, so you can see exactly what you will pay at any quantity before placing your order.

Can I order a foam board in a size not listed on the page?

The six standard sizes listed on this page, A4, A3, A2, A1, 600 x 900mm and A0, are what can be ordered and priced here. If you need a size outside that list, the team can provide a quote, up to the equipment ceiling of a 1200 x 2400mm sheet. Custom shape cutting and strut backing remain available on the standard sizes.

Are foam boards suitable for event welcome signs and seating charts?

Yes, foam board is one of the most popular materials for event signage. The lightweight rigid format is easy to carry to a venue, and boards can be placed on easels, leaned against surfaces or fitted with a strut back for a freestanding setup. Common uses include welcome signs for conferences and functions, seating charts for gala dinners and awards nights, order of events boards and photo displays.

How should I care for and store my foam boards?

Store foam boards flat to prevent warping. Keep them in a cool, dry location away from direct sunlight, heat sources and moisture. Foam core is sensitive to heat, so avoid leaving boards in hot vehicles or near heating elements. When transporting to a venue, carry boards flat or on their long edge to minimise the risk of bending.

What Is Foam Board?

Foam board, also called foam core board or foamboard, is a lightweight rigid panel made from a polystyrene foam core bonded between two smooth paper liners. The result is a stiff, flat surface that takes full-colour printing beautifully while remaining light enough to carry in one hand. At Paperlust Print Shop, every foam board is printed using direct UV technology, which bonds ink directly to the surface for vivid, durable results. Available in 5 mm for standard work and 10 mm for extra rigidity, foam board sits between paper posters and heavyweight rigid substrates, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of displays and signage.

Sizes, Thickness and Quantities

Standard sizes available: A4, A3, A2, A1, A0, and 600 x 900 mm. Every size is available in 5 mm or 10 mm thickness, with 10 mm adding extra rigidity on larger formats. The six sizes listed here are the only sizes you can order on this page. A size outside that list is a quote from the team, and any quote is capped by the printing equipment limit of a 1200 x 2400mm sheet.

Order from a single board through to 100 or more. Instant online pricing is published at every quantity break, so there are no minimum order requirements and no need to call for a price.

Single and Double Sided Printing

Most foam board suppliers print one side only. At Paperlust, you can choose single or double sided printing, making your boards useful wherever both faces are visible. Double sided foam board is particularly well suited to hanging seating charts, freestanding event signs viewed from multiple directions, and retail displays that face aisles from both sides. The same full-colour UV process is used on each face, so colour consistency is maintained across the board.

Custom Shape Cutting: No Cut File Required

Our custom shape cutting service uses a router to cut boards to any outline you need, from rounded corners and arch tops to fully custom silhouettes. You do not need to supply a print-ready vector cut file. Simply provide your artwork and our team builds the cutting line from it. Very intricate shapes or three-dimensional forms are handled through our custom quote process.

For outdoor-rated custom shapes, see our corflute signs, which offer similar cut-to-shape options in a weatherproof material.

Standees, Life-Size Cutouts and Big Head Cutouts

Custom shape cutting is how a printed foam board becomes a photo cutout or standee. Popular requests include:

  • Big head cutouts and face cutouts for birthdays, graduations and sporting events
  • Life-size standees of founders, team members and guests of honour for product launches and corporate events
  • Photo cutouts for milestone birthdays, farewells and memorials
  • Mascot, logo and product cutouts for retail counters and trade show stands

If you have been searching for a custom cardboard cutout, printed foam board gives you the same cut-to-outline result on a lighter, stiffer board. Add the fold-out strut back option and your cutout stands on its own with no easel required. Standard sizes reach A0 (841 x 1189mm), and a taller life-size cutout becomes a quote from our team rather than an option on the page. If you need a shaped, free-standing display supplied as a finished piece with its own strut, our point-of-sale standees range is the product for the job, while a foam board is a printed panel specified as a board.

Strut Back Option for Free-Standing Displays

The fold-out strut back option adds a rear support that turns your board into a self-supporting free-standing display. No easel, no stand, no hardware required. This makes foam board displays easy to place on counters, reception desks, cafe tables or floors without any additional setup. The strut folds out to hold the board upright and stable on flat surfaces.

Event Signage, Welcome Signs and Photo Boards

Foam board is one of the most popular materials for event signage. Common uses include:

  • Welcome signs at conference and function venue entrances
  • Seating charts and table allocation boards for gala dinners and awards nights
  • Milestone birthday and farewell photo boards
  • Photo cutouts and standees of guests of honour
  • Order of events and program boards on display stands
  • Memorial and tribute boards

The lightweight format makes foam board easy to carry to a venue, set on an easel, or lean against a wall. For a completely freestanding sign with no easel, add the strut back option at checkout. For durable outdoor event signage, corflute signs are the weatherproof alternative.

Retail, Trade Show, Office and Presentation Displays

Beyond events, foam board is widely used for:

  • Retail point-of-sale and counter displays
  • Trade show and exhibition graphics
  • Conference and event signage
  • Architectural and design presentation boards
  • Office and reception area displays
  • Real estate and property marketing boards

The combination of a rigid, flat surface and lightweight foam core means boards travel well to trade shows and exhibitions. For permanent or semi-permanent indoor signage that needs to withstand handling over time, PVC signs offer greater durability. For a lower-cost paper option in a framed or temporary display, posters are worth considering.

Mounting, Display and Care

Foam board can be displayed in several ways without any specialised hardware:

  • Lean against a wall or surface
  • Place on an easel or picture stand
  • Attach to a flat surface using velcro strips or double-sided tape applied to the smooth paper liner on the back
  • Use the optional fold-out strut back for a completely freestanding setup

Foam board is designed for indoor use only. Foam core is not weatherproof and is sensitive to heat, so keep boards away from direct sunlight, outdoor conditions and heat sources. Store flat to prevent warping, and keep dry at all times.
