Vinyl Lettering
Custom vinyl lettering is cut from self-adhesive vinyl and supplied pre-spaced on transfer tape, ready to position on a clean surface. The letters have no background, so the surface shows between and inside each character and the finished job reads like professional hand-painted signwriting.
It suits shopfront windows, vehicles, boats, walls, glassware and bottles, and other smooth non-porous surfaces. Each piece is made to order in Australia in one colour, and multi-colour designs are ordered as multiple pieces.
What sets our lettering apart is the preparation. We hand-weed every piece before it reaches you, and Gold, Rose Gold and Silver are premium metal-effect films we hold in stock rather than order in. Cut lettering is a delicate product by nature: the film is 70 micron, thinner than a sheet of copy paper, and once weeded each letter is held in place only by the transfer tape. The adhesive is permanent, so the first contact with the surface is the final position. Read the application steps further down the page before starting, and choose a bold font with every stroke at least 5mm thick so your lettering meets the cutting limit.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the largest size available?
The largest single piece is 600 x 260mm, measured as width x maximum letter height. Designs larger than that are supplied as multiple pieces, each within the 600 x 260mm maximum, which you position and align yourself during application.
How small and how thin can the lettering be?
The minimum letter height is 20mm, and the minimum stroke thickness is 5mm, measured at the thinnest part of every letter. On a letter 20mm high, a 5mm stroke takes up a quarter of the height, so small lettering needs a heavy, bold font.
How long does production take?
Production time is 3 to 5 working days. This time does not include how long the parcel spends in transit.
How do multi-colour designs work?
Each piece is cut in one colour. A multi-colour design is ordered as multiple pieces, which you position separately to build the finished layout.
Which surfaces are suitable?
The vinyl suits smooth, non-porous surfaces, including glass, windows, glassware, drink bottles, painted metal, plastic, sealed timber and smooth painted walls. For best results choose a clean, dry surface.
How long does the lettering last outdoors?
Standard colours are rated for up to 3 years outdoors. Black and White are rated for up to 5 years, while Gold, Rose Gold and Silver are best suited to indoor and sheltered outdoor use.
Are the metallic colours available from stock?
Gold, Rose Gold and Silver are premium metal-effect films we hold in stock. They are part of the 13 colour range alongside standard gloss colours.
Can I use vinyl lettering on my boat?
Yes. Boat names and rego numbers work well above the waterline on clean painted panels or glass, and longer boat names are supplied as multiple pieces you align on the hull during application. Prepare the surface before applying, as with any vehicle or window job.
Can the lettering be removed later?
Letters can be removed later, but they are single-use and do not re-stick. If you need reusable graphics, choose a different product for temporary applications.
What if a letter lifts or tears while I am applying it?
A letter that lifts with the tape is normal. Lay the tape back down, press the letter firmly through it and peel again more slowly. Letters are single-use and cut to order, so a piece damaged during application is not replaced free of charge, but the affected piece can be reordered on its own at the single-piece price.
Can I apply it to walls?
Yes. The vinyl suits smooth painted walls that are clean and dry. The cut letters have no background, so the wall colour shows through between and inside the letters.

Sizes and how the sizing works
Sizes are pre-set and measured as width x maximum letter height. The five size blocks are 200 x 100mm, 300 x 150mm, 400 x 200mm, 500 x 260mm and 600 x 260mm. Every letter must be at least 20mm tall, and the thinnest stroke of every letter must be at least 5mm thick. Each piece is cut in one colour, so a multi-colour design is ordered as multiple pieces. Designs larger than 600 x 260mm are supplied as multiple pieces, each within the maximum, which you position and align yourself when applying.
Colours and stocked metallic films
There are 13 colours across two finishes. Standard gloss includes Black, White, Red, Reflex Blue, Light Blue, Kelly Green, Orange, Yellow, Magenta and Dark Grey. Premium Metallic includes Gold, Rose Gold and Silver, which are metal-effect films we hold in stock.
Where people use custom vinyl lettering
It suits smooth, non-porous surfaces, including glass shopfront windows, painted metal, plastic, sealed timber and smooth painted walls. Use it for window signage, vehicle panels and glass, boat names and rego numbers above the waterline, and drinkware or bottles. For a rigid freestanding sign instead of lettering on a surface, see our corflute signs.
Before you apply, and how to apply it
The letters cannot be repositioned once they touch the surface, so take your time with placement. Every stroke of your lettering needs to measure 5mm or more at its thinnest point, and thin script fonts and hairline serifs usually only reach that measurement at a larger size. These are also the lettering styles most likely to stretch or tear as the transfer tape comes off. If a letter lifts with the tape, lay the tape back down, press that letter firmly through it and peel again more slowly. Adhesion depends on the surface, which must be clean, dry, smooth and non-porous and free of wax, silicone and cleaning residue. Textured, porous or freshly painted surfaces are not suitable.
Clean the surface first, then position the piece with the transfer tape still in place. Press the letters down firmly through the transfer tape, then peel the tape back slowly at a low angle. For multi-piece designs:
- Mark a straight guide line first with low-tack masking tape and a spirit level, or use an existing straight edge such as a window frame or panel line.
- Tape each piece in position with masking tape and step back to check alignment before removing the backing.
- Work in order, one piece at a time, left to right or top to bottom, keeping spacing consistent.
- Apply the next piece only after the previous one is pressed down firmly.
On glassware and bottles, hand wash only. The lettering is not dishwasher safe.
Durability and material facts
Standard colours are cut from 70 micron gloss calendered vinyl with permanent adhesive. Expect up to 3 years outdoor life for standard colours, and up to 5 years for Black and White. Gold, Rose Gold and Silver are best suited to indoor and sheltered outdoor use.
When a different product fits better
If your design is printed, multi-colour or photographic, our vinyl stickers are a better fit. For volume product labelling, vinyl labels give you a practical alternative.
