Frequently Asked Questions
Are the ready-made business card designs free to use?

There is no set-up charge on any ready design. You simply pay the print price for the card you order. Selecting the design, having your details placed into it and receiving the PDF proof are all included.

Can I change a ready-made business card design?

You can change the details we set into the design, and you can switch to another card option, shape or orientation when the design supports it. If you want another shape or the opposite orientation, we rework the layout at no extra cost and show it on the proof. Changing the design itself, such as rebuilding it around your logo or adjusting the layout, is done through the Custom Design service.

What do I need to provide to get a ready design set up?

After the card is in your cart, the Upload Artwork step collects your name, business name, phone and email. Where your trade requires them, you can also add a licence or registration number and an ABN. We then place those details into the design and send a free PDF proof for your check before printing starts.

Can I print a ready design on a different card type?

It depends on which design you pick. A design created for Standard Business Cards can also be ordered on the rounded corner or recycled versions. Designs that rely on a special finish or stock, such as foil, spot UV, Scodix, duplex or coloured paper, remain on that specific card. Many of those can still be ordered as a Standard edition, keeping the same layout without the finish.

How long until I see a proof?

The digital proof reaches you within 1 to 2 business days after you supply your details. Nothing is printed until you approve it. After your approval, production begins, and the product page for the card shows the current production lead time.

What is the difference between a ready-made design and a custom design?

A ready design is a pre-made layout you select from the gallery. You provide your details and they are placed into that layout, with the card's print price as the only cost. A custom design is built around your own logo, words and images. It includes a dedicated designer, two options on the first proof, and three rounds of revision.

This gallery collects ready-made business card designs, grouped by industry and paired with the card each one is set up for. How a ready design becomes your card

Each ready-made business card design follows the same path from gallery choice to approved proof.

  • Select one of the layouts. The page that opens belongs to the card the design is paired with, with that design selected and the print options it was created for already marked Recommended. You can still adjust any option before adding it to the cart.
  • After you add the card, the next Upload Artwork step asks for your name, business name, phone and email. Where your trade requires them, also include your licence or registration number and ABN.
  • We place those details into the design and send a free PDF proof inside 1 to 2 business days.
  • Approve the proof and printing begins. Nothing goes to press until you approve, and the product page for the card shows the current production window.

A ready design has no set-up charge. The only cost is the print price of the card.

You can also move the design to another shape or turn it the other way, and we handle that layout in-house without an extra fee. On coloured stock, the ink tone stays with the colourway you selected.

Matching the design to the card

Each design belongs to one card type, and each card type has its own product page and price. Start with the format the design was created for.

  • Standard Business Cards: the familiar 90 x 55 mm size, printing on one or both sides, available in 300 GSM Matte, Linen, Cotton or Metallic, or 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate. The 300 GSM options come without laminate.
  • Rounded Corner Business Cards: 90 x 55 mm with rounded corners, offered in the same paper range as Standard Business Cards.
  • Recycled Business Cards: 350 GSM ecoStar+, a bright white uncoated board made entirely from recycled fibre and about 0.45 mm thick. The paper maker's specification sheet lists FSC Recycled and EU Ecolabel.
  • Coloured Paper Business Cards: coloured cardstock printed in full colour or white ink. Options include black and navy at 270 GSM, kraft at 290 GSM, and forest green, hunter green, burgundy or cream at 300 GSM, plus further colours.
  • Flat Foil Business Cards: mirror-bright foil in gold, silver, rose gold, copper or holographic, applied level with the card face and limited to one side.
  • Spot UV Business Cards: a glossy clear layer placed on chosen sections of a 450 GSM Artboard card that has Velvet Laminate.
  • Duplex Business Cards: a thick card created by bonding two stocks together, one used for each face, so the different colours appear along the exposed edge.
  • Raised Foil Business Cards: tactile gold, silver or rose gold foil that sits slightly proud of the surface, on 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate.
  • Scodix Business Cards: a clear polymer layer, raised and printed on one side, over 450 GSM Artboard with Velvet Laminate.

When a design is set up for Standard Business Cards, you can also order it in the rounded corner or recycled versions. Many designs that rely on a finish or stock can instead be ordered as a Standard edition, keeping the same layout but dropping the finish.

You can compare each format's size, stock and finish choices on the card shapes and types page.

Rules for a good business card design

Good business card designs respect how people read a small card. Keep these points in mind while you browse.

  • Give priority to the details someone acts on: your name, the job you do, and a phone number. Trade cards often place the phone line first.
  • Keep written details inside the safe area, roughly 4 mm in from the trim. Run backgrounds 3 mm beyond the edge for bleed, so no part of the design is cut away.
  • Small type survives when text and background contrast strongly. Thin or very slight fonts, and light colours on white, often disappear at card size.
  • Only include a QR code when it leads to something worth opening, like a booking page, a request-a-quote form or your review profile, and scan it yourself before ordering.
  • Give the main lines breathing space. A cramped card reads as harder to call.
  • In several states, licensed trades must publish a licence or registration number in their advertising. Queensland and the ACT regard a business card as advertising, so check what your own regulator expects.

Use the what to put on a business card guide as a checklist for the details your card needs.

The business card design guide covers type, spacing and layout choices in more depth.

Browsing this gallery is also a practical way to gather business card examples for your own industry before you settle on a direction.

When a custom design is the better route

A ready design already handles the layout. The Custom Design service is the better fit when you want to alter the design itself, or when you need a card built around your own logo rather than a gallery layout.

  • A dedicated professional designer handles the work.
  • The first proof gives you two options to compare.
  • Three rounds of revision are included after that.
  • We need your business information, including the logo, wording and images, plus a reference for the direction such as fonts, layout and colours.

Choose custom work when your logo should be the centrepiece, when none of the ready layouts suits what your business does, or when you want the design changed instead of simply having your details placed into an existing one.
